The History Of The Ouija Board
In my opinion the Ouija board is actually not a modern invention. The original concept of the board probably dates back to ancient Babylonian and Egyptian times. I imagine those who were familiar with the mysteries, made their own boards using clay tablets and a pendulum to collect information on just about any subject.
The Ouija board we know today was introduced in the late 1840s when Spiritualism became popular among occultists and secret societies. It was initially more complex, because their methods would involve knocking on the floor in response to letters being called out from the alphabet. Or they would use an intricate device that would have a pencil attached to it, allowing the spirits to guide the inquirer to the letters or numbers on the board.
In 1890, Charles Kennard and some of his colleagues, had the idea to turn this divination tool into a toy. They came up with the name Ouija, because it means “good luck” in Kemetic, the oldest known Egyptian language.
The Mystical Power Of Mirrors
I just had a debate with a colleague about using a mirror as a divination tool, also known as scrying. She was adamant that the only type of mirror which can be used for scrying is a black mirror, which is made of darkened, smoky glass. In my experience this is not necessarily true.
I explained to her that one evening, in a dimly-lit hotel room, whilst I was brushing my hair in the mirror, I saw to my left, via my peripheral vision, my grandfather sitting in the room’s armchair. He was smiling at me, and I remember this vision like it was yesterday.
I had only ever met my paternal grandfather twice, as a toddler, and I had almost no recollection of him at all, other than photos of him I was shown in later years. What I was told, on two occasions by psychics years later, is that he was always around me and that he would never allow any harm to come to me.

I recently enrolled in a course to become professional herbalist. Herbs are something I’ve always been interested in. I wouldn’t say I have a green thumb for growing plants and gardening, but I certainly do love immersing myself with the herbs. One of my herbalist instructors said something that stands out for me. She said that you don’t need to be a great gardener, farmer, or botanist to be an herbalist. She went on to say that many of her greatest students and graduates have been urban dwellers who live in big cities. Rather than growing and harvesting their own herbs, they purchase them from trusted suppliers, both locally and online.

I come from a long line of female herbalists of European origins on my mother’s side of the family. They were seers, healers, and prophets who combined their psychic gifts with ancient healing practices. Today, they still come to me during meditation, to offer wisdom.
The family’s mainly Germanic connection is one I’ve researched for many years, but more recently I discovered that my ancestors crossed into Scandinavian and Norse territories too, which suggests a bloodline of fierce women who were warriors of their time. It’s really not surprising to me, as even my own mother today, who is 84 years old, can still kick anyone’s butt who crosses her path in an unkind way! The Truth About Dragons
Dragons are often relegated to the realm of myth, but in my experience the energy of these beings can serve as an ally in our everyday life. Dragons in the western tradition tend to have a bad rap. For example, in some Judeo-Christian theology, the dragon is considered a symbol . When I first encountered this type of being in my own life I was taken aback. My roots stem from the Judeo-Christian tradition and much of my training and personal evolution stems from this background.
In eastern cultures, dragons are looked upon in much the same way westerners consider angels. These beings bring with them blessings, help, and unique power to facilitate change. Dragons are also represented in the Biblical tradition as well, but they have a different name.
Several years ago, I had my first encounter with a dragon-like being. When I saw it I heard the word seraph, even though at the time I had little familiarity with the term. I looked up the term and the literal meaning of the word is, ‘flaming serpent.’
In my experience, the creature looked exactly like the traditional conceptualization of a dragon, with a few minor differences. I realized after this first encounter I had interacted with a seraph – one of the classes of angels. Continue reading
Spiritual Rituals Provide Sacred Space
Spiritual ceremonies, where humans gather together in a circle, are especially potent. An energetic hoop gathers over the circle to assist in the endeavor for the gathering, whether it be for the purpose of celebrating a new birth, honoring a solstice, or to express anything of importance to humanity, as individuals, or as a group.
Altars are also powerful. They are a gathering place for spirits to provide protection and shielding, to aid in a calling or, perhaps, to provide a sacred place for the energy of one who has crossed to another dimension to gather and connect. Or, we might choose to build an altar dedicated to providing an anchor for our business when we are away, the same as when we are present. Continue reading
