My First Encounter With Spirit
In the summer of 1987, nearly a year after my parents died just a few days apart, I attended a mediumship evening at one of the spiritualist churches in Toronto. I had never been to a spiritualist church before, however, I had met a friend for lunch earlier in the day and she told me about the upcoming event that evening. Neither of us had ever heard of such a thing before. Unfortunately, my friend was unable to attend because she was on her way out of town, but I decided to give it a try on my own.
The church was located in a shopping plaza, on the second level, above a store. As I went up the very steep steps into parts unknown above, I was not only curious, but also quite skeptical. The room was already packed when I got there, so I sat right near the door, just in case these people started performing any weird rituals, or so other strange stuff. A Heavenly Tea Party
A client I read for on a regular basis, called me the other day about a dearly departed relative. Her grandmother crossed over to the spirit realm recently, and she was hoping to connect with her in a mediumship session. She and her grandma made a promise to one another that they would attempt to connect after her passing.
About a year ago she had told me her grandma was going to be entering a hospice center. I had told her then to spend as much time as she could with her granny, and fortunately she did. She would bring granny some of her favorite things and would read to her. She loved this, since her vision had declined a lot in recent years and she could no longer read for herself. The Everyday Miracle Of Everywhere Magic
Seeing the world through glittering eyes is no longer a walk in the park for the spiritual optimist. There is such a lack of awe these days; so little wonder.
Our society has successfully stripped itself of most of its metaphysical marvels. Yet, magic prevails everywhere for those who still seek to find it. Despite our cynical age of scientific skepticism, techno-futurism and neo-draconian politics, the mystical and miraculous continues to endure in the hearts and minds of those who choose to believe.
I have seen evidence of this everyday magic in my work with many people all over the world, as well as upon many of my travels. I have known it in the devoted spiritual practices and manifesting projects of my clients. I have observed it in the heroic metaphysical endeavors and healing miracles of my colleagues. Just What Is Your Higher Self?
The ‘Higher Self’ is a term associated with multiple belief systems, but the basic premise describes an eternal, omnipotent, conscious, and an intelligent being, who is one’s real self. We are after all spiritual beings having a human experience.
Helena Blavatsky, the famous spirit medium and co-founder of the Theosophical Society, formally defined the higher self as ‘Atma – the inseparable ray of the Universe and one self.’
It is important to discern the higher self from ego. The higher self is concerned with your spiritual development and the choices you make that align with your true spiritual self. I personally like to think of my higher self as my soul’s GPS – always giving me the right direction in life on the earth plane. Continue reading
How To Conduct A Séance
When I facilitate a séance, it is to give the sitters opportunity to communicate with departed spirits that have crossed over to the other side, which the spirits like to call ‘home.’ Spirits often like to call the day they left the earth plain their ‘birthday’ going back home. Death is the beginning of their life in the other side, as some people like to call it. Matter cannot be destroyed it just changes form.
A séance is group session aimed at communicating with spirits. The word séance comes from the French word for seat, session or setting (from the old French seoir, which means to sit).
There are usually three to twelve people in the séance. I prefer six to eight, and if possible a mix of female and male energy. When people come to my space for a séance I have a nice round wooden pedestal table. Lighting is a personal preference. Some mediums like very little light, some like a red light, because they believe it is easier to see spirit in red light. I personally feel spirit can communicate in any kind of lighting. Soul Rescue Versus Soul Retrieval
Sometimes soul rescue and soul retrieval are intertwined as being the same thing. There is a subtle, but key difference in my view.
In the case of soul retrieval we are finding an aspect of self and returning it back. Soul rescue refers to being of service to a spirit or soul that is temporarily lost, or needs guidance to continue its journey in non-ordinary reality, in the realm of Spirit, having left the physical plane.
In the shamanic community there is a technique known as soul retrieval which represents the fragmented self. The fragmented self is a part of us that becomes temporarily ‘disconnected’ from our etheric soul, from the context of associative memories of a time in our life. Continue reading
Lessons In Love – Part 3
When asked what the best message is that I have ever received from my spirit guides, I had to stop and think, because I am always receiving amazing spiritual messages that make me see things from a completely different perspective.
However, I do feel the most powerful guidance I ever received was on the subject of the fruit of the spirit. Spirit guides want their loved ones to know that in order to live happy, healthy lives we must definitely live with these fruit of the spirit.
The “Fruit of the Holy Spirit” is a biblical concept for the nine attributes of a Christian life, as described by Paul the Apostle in his letter to the Galatians. The fruit of the Spirit are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Continue reading
