Just What Is Your Higher Self?
The ‘Higher Self’ is a term associated with multiple belief systems, but the basic premise describes an eternal, omnipotent, conscious, and an intelligent being, who is one’s real self. We are after all spiritual beings having a human experience.
Helena Blavatsky, the famous spirit medium and co-founder of the Theosophical Society, formally defined the higher self as ‘Atma – the inseparable ray of the Universe and one self.’
It is important to discern the higher self from ego. The higher self is concerned with your spiritual development and the choices you make that align with your true spiritual self. I personally like to think of my higher self as my soul’s GPS – always giving me the right direction in life on the earth plane.

You know that GPS voice that sometimes is a little annoying when it keeps repeating itself over and over, and you don’t want to hear that voice again. Especially when it keeps saying, “Recalculating route.” The higher self does exactly the same thing sometimes. When you are in tune with your higher self, all decisions become easier, if you just pay attention.
Meditation is the key, in how to meet and connect, and get to know and trust your higher self, your own inner voice. Find a place where you can be alone for a while turn off all the electronics, especially your phone. Find the most comfortable chair. Comfort is the key.
Focus your eyes on a spot on the ceiling and take three long slow deep belly breaths, then close your eyes. Bring your attention to your breathing. Let thoughts come and go right by, just like clouds is the sky.
Continue to breath and relax, breath and relax, as you imagine each part of your body relaxing from head to toe and all of your muscles and internal organs relax as well. Then in your mind count yourself down from ten to one. When you are at one, know that you are there, connected to your soul.
Take three more long slow deep breaths and ask your higher self, your soul, for any information that would benefit you to know about at this time. Keep an open mind about any information you may receive from your own higher self.
Be patient, give yourself 15 to 20 minutes to receive any messages from your higher self. Try to release mental chatter from your mind. Set the intention to connect with your higher self. Your higher self is always looking out for your best interest. Sometimes, it takes more than one time to ask for information. Your higher self makes sure you are ready for the information.
As you meditate and become more spiritually attuned, you can better discern and recognize the sound of your higher Self or the voice of God speaking to you through words, images, and sensations ~ Jack Canfield
When you feel that you have gotten the information that you needed to hear from this time, in your mind count one to five, and at the count of five you will become wide awake alert and clear, ready to go about the rest of your day. Always thank you higher self for its help.
When you ask yourself questions, your body has a reaction either positive or negative, or it just might warn you with a feeling that something is just not right. You have what is called that “good old gut feeling.” When a person chooses to ignore that gut feeling, things usually take a wrong turn fairly quickly. When you pay attention, you may decide not to go forward with an action. You may ‘dodge a bullet.’
When a person has a positive feeling and a knowing, or an anxious feeling in the heart that something is just the right decision, it usually is. Emotions are the higher self’s way of communicating messages to you. Treat your higher self like your best friend because it truly is.
