Winter May Come, But Spring Will Always Follow
The delicate African Violets on my window sill are beautiful this season. The window is the best place for them, as each one soaks up the sunlight from the East. The Sun smiles on them this morning.
The key thing with violets that many people don’t realize is that we hurt them the most by over-watering. Water is a good thing for plants, right? Violets, however, are native to the tropics where heat, sun, and a dry atmosphere is more prevalent.
The unique needs of these violets teaches us how to follow our own path. This is the true beauty of nature. See, each of us is different. When we look around us, we can’t follow someone else’s path, or be jealous, or worried that the path they are following is different from our own. Continue reading
All Living Things
During times of upheaval, sadness, psychic, or sensory overload the one thing that always brings me back to compassion and empathy is the connection between all living things.
I’m one of those who weeps at an Internet picture of a cat abandoned by society, just as much as I do for human victims of unspeakable things. None of us are any different when it comes right down to the basics. It’s what drove me to go through massage therapy school over ten years ago. I’ll never forget how everyone turned when, as one of the massage students I was asked, “what do you do now and why are you here?” I said, “I’m a professional psychic and astrologer and I want to see what lays beneath the surface of the skin.” People didn’t know where to look. Either that, or they rushed to come and say hello to me during the break. Continue reading
Good Morning, It’s Good To Be Alive!
Good morning fellow seekers and believers. A warm welcome also to ye of little faith. It is indeed a blessing to greet you at the dawn of yet another perfect Solstice day in this miraculous annual progression of human history. It is December 21st, 2012 and it is exactly 11:11 GMT, the official time of the Solstice. Take a deep breath, you are indeed still alive!
If you are one of the more adventurous and spirited among us, you may very well find yourself today on a Mayan galactic alignment cruise or magical pilgrimage to the Chichen Itza in the Mexican state of Yucatan, or at Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, waiting for the first light to break on the horizon. I can only imagine how much fun you must be having! Continue reading
Magical Thinking
Magical thinking is a common trait found among all children all over the world, between the ages of approximately two until seven years of age. This time frame is also known as the ‘pre-operational stage’ of child development and it is the period in our early life when we increasingly explore our environment, and gradually learn to distinguish between ‘fantasy’ and ‘reality’.
Children at this age initially have all kinds of imaginative ideas and magical interpretations of the world, in order to make sense of their external and internal reality. At this age we still believe that we can grow wings and learn to fly; or that animals can talk and sing; or that our shadow is a magical person following us around; or that the Sun goes to sleep in the ocean; that there is a man living in the Moon; or that the wind, the clouds and the trees notice us and obey our instructions. We often also have ‘imaginary friends’ at this age. Continue reading
Sitting On The Dock Of The Imaginary Bay
I am, for all intents and purposes, a transplanted ‘Islander’ who is far, far away from her home… many thousands of miles, in a culture that could not be more different than the one I was raised in, if it tried to be.
The differences in perspective are so very large when you come from a tiny island in the Caribbean. I tend to be much more laid back than, say, someone who may have been born and raised in a big city. I’m not always ‘understood’ by some who think I need to be a lot more of, well, I have never been able to figure that out exactly, what I should be ‘more’ of, since I love being me. And after all this time, I know how to be me. Continue reading
The Animal Psychic Connection
As any pet owner knows, we work to make sure our ‘babies’ are safely housed with a warm blanket and plenty of food. At least, this is how it is for me. My animals are my children and provide me with the most unconditional love and support I could ever ask for.
Pets are little people with fur. My Tinkerbell will be the first to tell you, in her ‘Auntie Mame’ sort of way, that she is only here because she loves her mommy so much. My boy Cricket would say that he likes to lie next to me when I am not feeling so good and he tries to take the pain away. And my Polly Pocket gets sick when I get sick. I have to muster up and climb myself out of bed so that my tiny Chihuahua won’t slip into a major depression! Continue reading
If Only We Had Some Patience In A Bottle
What is one of the most valuable commodities that anyone can possess in this day and age? What is the one precious thing we all seem to lack?
I believe that, given the opportunity, some of us would even trade all of our earthly possessions for a lifelong supply of this magical substance. It is the one thing that can secure us so much happiness, inner peace and long-term fulfillment.
Have you guessed what this ‘eighth wonder of the world’ is? Well, it is the virtue of patience, of course!
The Dutch say that “a handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains”. There is no doubt in my mind that should some genius be able to develop a magical formula to capture patience in a bottle, that person would overnight become the wealthiest and most famous person on the planet!
