All Living Things
During times of upheaval, sadness, psychic, or sensory overload the one thing that always brings me back to compassion and empathy is the connection between all living things.
I’m one of those who weeps at an Internet picture of a cat abandoned by society, just as much as I do for human victims of unspeakable things. None of us are any different when it comes right down to the basics. It’s what drove me to go through massage therapy school over ten years ago. I’ll never forget how everyone turned when, as one of the massage students I was asked, “what do you do now and why are you here?” I said, “I’m a professional psychic and astrologer and I want to see what lays beneath the surface of the skin.” People didn’t know where to look. Either that, or they rushed to come and say hello to me during the break.
Consider your own place in the universal oneness of which we are all a part, from which we all arise, and to which we all return ~ David Fontana
But it’s a fundamental truth, we are the same, all living things are, be us man, woman, child, cat, dog, bird, horse, bug. I could go on and on, but I am sure you understand where I am coming from regarding species.
We all have eyes, or some way, if not, of sensing where we are. We can hear. We all have a heart that beats inside of us. We all have nervous systems and ways of reacting to love or fear, flight or fight, instincts.
We all have blood flowing through our bodies, and with the exception of certain species, like fish who live underwater, we are all walking, crawling, somehow moving around on this very same earth. We must have empathy for this fact. All intentions need to come after that fact.
Many years ago a man broke my heart into a million pieces. I can remember getting off work and going home to just fall into a crumpled heap on the floor. Then I remember watching this same man save a tiny bug from drowning in a pool and knowing then I could never hate this person no matter what had happened. We remain dearest friends 25 years later.
All living things by definition are alive. Let’s start allowing that basic fact to embrace our thoughts and allow it to make us kinder and more respectful, not just for ourselves, but for others. Let renewed appreciation commence. One step of kindness towards a living thing can reap miracles further down the road. Breathe in life and feel it flow through, and know that the next living thing you see does the very same thing, from cat to dog to person, and back! That’s a miracle to me, how about you?
