The African River Man
During the time of my ukuthwasa (period of initiation to become a traditional healer or sangoma) some decades ago in Southern Africa, my mentor and some other village elders would join our group of ithwasa (sangoma trainees) by the campfire and discuss other spirits. That is, others in addition to those of our ancestors.
We heard many tales of other spirits who control the rivers, oceans and lakes, as well as those who live in the sky and control the rain. There were also stories told of sacred places where spirits inhabited mountains, trees and rocks. I loved hearing those stories from various individuals whom have had unique experiences and felt they had seen and communicated with those various spirits. Continue reading
Ways To Practice Aura Reading
I am often asked if I can see auras. Yes, but in all honestly I see them only with deliberate focus and, in using techniques I learned in psychic development. I am more of a clairsentient when it comes to perceiving someone’s Aura. I ‘feel.’
The aura is an expression of a person, animal or any living being’s emotions and energies – physical, etheric, astral, mental and spiritual. It’s a subtle emanation surrounding the body, almost like a light cloud or luminous mist. The aura reveals one’s character, state of health, as well as one’s emotional nature and stage of spiritual development.
Bright primary aura colors are associated with good health, i.e. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, whilst colors which have become dark or muddy in appearance are generally associated with disease or energy imbalances. When a healer examines the quality of the colors in the aura, he or she will often make an informed diagnosis. If a healer is really skilled, they can remove any offensive energy and bring one’s auric field into a healthy state of equilibrium. Continue reading
Cleansing Your Energy With Sage
To cleanse using the smoke of burning sage is an ancient Native American healing art, also known as smudging, which is designed to help clear negative energy. It can be used in your home, office, car, and also on your own energy.
If you are feeling depressed, angry, frustrated or even having trouble sleeping, smudging with sage can help you clear your negative thoughts and start anew. To sage yourself, buy organic sage. Place the sage in a bowl or an abalone shell (my preference because of the ocean energy it brings). Using a match or lighter, light the sage. It will briefly produce a flame and then it will just smolder and smoke.
Using your hands, pull the smoke into your face and upper chest area, over and over. While doing this, think about what you want to clear. Be specific and detailed. Then think about what you want to bring into your energy: peace, calm, love, positivity, hope, guidance, kindness, self-love, self-acceptance, vitality, youthfulness, energy, patience. It is helpful to take a shower afterwards, to cleanse all of the vibrations you just released off of your body and energy. Continue reading
Healing With Music And Sound
“Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak,” wrote William Congreve in his classic poem, The Mourning Bride. He seems to have understood that music can soothe anyone who might be be stressed out, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed.
Studies indicate that music and sound heal us in a multitude of way, perhaps even at the cellular level. Long-term patients, nursing home residents, and chronically depressed people have been found to experience healing through sound.
Ancient cultures from Egypt to Japan to Australia used the secrets of healing sound. What these long-ago people instinctively knew, we now attribute to the effect of certain wavelengths upon our brains to calm, relax, and heal. As with acupuncture, these sounds may be able to reset our internal balances and remove negative energies. Continue reading
Himalayan Salt Lamps – Are They For You?
Himalayan salt lamps naturally purify the air through ionization. Studies indicate that as much as a third of the world’s population reacts adversely to negative ions, and many people report that the air becomes easier to breathe when using a salt lamp.
Larger versions of these lamps, ideally hand-carved from the natural rock salt, are attractive and come in shades of red, amber, and cream. No two are alike! They weigh between 25 and 32 pounds and each will treat a space up to 320 square feet. Apart from the tabletop versions, did you know they are also available in a larger, half-dome size? Like their smaller versions, these lamps have multiple health benefits: relief from asthma and allergies, low energy, sleeplessness, and attention deficit. Continue reading
The Healing Power Of Empathetic Listening
“They don’t listen to anything I say,” are words we often hear. People long to be acknowledged, and from my experience this is something people in many parts of the world are missing, as we all rush from place to place. The inhabitants of a modern day home tend to become like passing ships in the night to their loved ones, and hardly communicate with one another.
Really listening to another goes straight to the heart. It opens the empath and the medical intuitive’s eyes to that which any X-ray or computerized tomography (CT) scan cannot. Active listening is the most powerful catalyst for change in any healing therapy. Continue reading
