The Terminology Of Spiritualism
In the study of Spiritualism, there are many words coined to cover conditions and manifestations out of the ordinary. Following are words and definitions of many of them:
1. Mediumship – The ability of human instruments to attune themselves to the vibrations of the spirit people and through peculiar chemical properties of their physical bodies to produce ectoplasm necessary for the manifestation of physical phenomena.
2. Clairvoyance – Clear seeing; soul seeing; lucidity; the ability to see with the spiritual eye those who have made the change called death and to see their names, messages and symbols written out in the ether. Continue reading
What Is A Medium?
A mental medium is one who is capable of receiving the thought vibrations of those living in the spirit world and transmitting them to those of us on Earth.
A physical medium is one who has, within his or her human body, the chemicals necessary for the production of the ectoplasm used as the basis for all of the physical phenomena of Spiritualism.
The spirit teachers tell us that every human soul has the ability to unfold some phase of mediumship. We ourselves cannot choose the phase which we would like to develop, for we may not be capable of producing the particular phase that we desire. Ectoplasm The Basis Of Spirit Manifestation
Ectoplasm is an outer layer of protoplasm; one could say it is an etherealized protoplasm. Protoplasm is the basis of all plant and animal life.
Physical mediumship requires either a superabundance of one of the chemicals contained in protoplasm, or the addition of an unknown chemical built up by spirit power. This substance in its many forms is used as the basis of all physical spirit manifestation.
It forms the body and clothing of a materialized spirit. It is also used in telekinesis and automatic writing. In fact, even the tiniest of spirit raps cannot be produced without the aid of a physical body from which is drawn the necessary ectoplasm.
Spirits, without the use of a material instrument, are powerless to produce a sound or anything that comes into the range of our five physical senses, for they live in a higher range of vibration of which we are unconscious. To produce any form of sound they need ectoplasm. Ectoplasm is the key to how spiritual entities manifest once again in a body that can be seen and even, sometimes, touched. Continue reading
The Man With The Black Coat
I remember coming out the back door, with a Kellogg’s Pop-Tart in one hand and a seven ounces bottle of 7Up in the other. It was July 13th. It was dad’s birthday and I had to be about nine years old at the time.
The family spent the day at my grandparents’ house to celebrate. More and more guests were showing up, until all the aunts, uncles and cousins were crowding together in the very small back yard.
I then noticed this mysterious man who I had never seen before. He was wearing a very long, black trench coat and he had a long black beard and a black hat. I remember thinking that he looked funny to me. I asked my mother who the man was, but when she turned around he was gone. Continue reading
The Other Dimensions
Did you know that there are other dimensions or realities that co-exist side by side with us?
From very early childhood I have been blessed with seeing elements of this from time to time. Believe me, if everyone could see this, the world might be a better place by now.
Just imagine no more wars, and no more people stepping on their neighbors for various selfish reasons. I think humanity would be more concerned with elevating its spiritual growth, if everyone was more aware of the other dimensions.
The first time I remember seeing quite a few ‘people’ in spirit. They were there, and you could kind of see through them? I went running to my mother, frightened. Her answer to me was: “don’t pay any attention to this, Gabby; everyone in the family sees these things. They cannot hurt you.” Continue reading
