The Magical Ways Spirits Contact Us

I was recently heartened to learn that a good friend of mine has embarked on an exploratory journey to better understand his psychic abilities and the direction of his spiritual path.

He shared with me his amazement that since he began his developmental journey, more and more spirits have been reaching out to him and asking, “Why me? To which I replied, “Why not you?”

It’s common for spirits to try to communicate with those of us who are more sensitive and receptive. People who are more open to spirit contact tend to experience more paranormal activity and visitations from the deceased.

It is important to note that once you open this particular door to the other side, you may experience an onslaught of souls trying to get your attention.

You have the right to let spirit know that you are willing to listen and communicate only when they present themselves one at a time, and only when you are available and it is convenient for you to do so. It is important to set firm boundaries to ensure that your personal time and energy is respected and protected.

Spirits of the deceased interact with the living in a variety of magical ways. Often the activity or message is subtle, but sometimes it can be very strong and direct. While these experiences are subjective and can vary greatly from person to person, they often provide comfort and a sense of continued connection between the living and the deceased.

Common ways in which spirits make their presence known to us may include:

Visitation Dreams: One of the most common ways that spirits communicate with us is through dreams. A dream visitation is usually a vivid and memorable dream in which a deceased loved one appears to offer us comfort, guidance, or messages. Sometimes it is just to say hello.

Energy Presence: Many people sense or feel the presence of deceased loved ones around them. This is especially true in the first few months after someone’s death. This type of energetic presence can be experienced as a sudden change in temperature, the feeling of a physical touch, or simply the feeling that someone is nearby.

Electrical Interference: Spirits often cause electrical phenomena. This can include lights flickering, appliances turning on and off without explanation, or televisions and radios spontaneously changing channels or volume. Not only is electricity a form of energy that is readily available in our human environment, making it a convenient and readily available medium for spirits to manipulate, but because spirits are energy-based, they also find it easier to interact with electrical circuits because they can influence them more easily than physical matter.

Familiar Scents: Sometimes a scent associated with the deceased, such as their favorite perfume, cologne, tobacco, or chewing gum flavor, can be detected without any apparent source.

Physical Manifestations: Although rare, gifted or highly receptive people may see apparitions or physical manifestations of the deceased. This can range from full apparitions to seeing shadows or movements out of the corner of the eye.

Hearing Voices: Hearing the voice of a deceased loved one, either externally or internally, is another way spirits can communicate. This can also include hearing significant songs, names, or phrases at meaningful moments.

Moving Objects: Objects that move on their own, especially objects that are significant to the deceased or the person they are trying to communicate with, is another sign. This can be as subtle as a photograph falling over or as direct as an item being placed in a path or disappearing from one location only to be found later in another.

Symbolic Appearances: Spirits may use symbols or animals to communicate, such as butterflies, birds, or coins found in unusual places. These symbols often have a personal or cultural meaning.

Intuitions: A sudden wave of emotion or intuition can also be a form of communication, where you may feel compelled to visit a place, reach out to someone, or have a strong sense of knowledge related to the deceased.

Unexplained Phenomena: This includes experiences that don’t fit neatly into other categories, such as feeling a sudden drop in temperature, seeing orbs or flashes of light, or experiencing synchronicities that remind you of the deceased.

Mediumship Readings: Spirits of our loved ones and ancestors can also reach out us with the help of a gifted psychic medium, by utilizing the medium’s psychic senses to convey messages from the spirit world to the living. The process is deeply personal and can vary significantly from one medium to another, depending on their unique abilities and the reading or channeling methods they’ve developed or prefer.

It is important to remember that spirit contact is never random or accidental. They always have a reason for making contact. Sometimes the messages are intended for the person being contacted directly. Other times they’re meant for other family members, friends, colleagues, or even acquaintances. Occasionally, you may even encounter an unknown spirit, also known as an “earthbound spirit,” who contacts you in the hope that you can help them in some way.

An earthbound spirit is the soul or consciousness of a deceased person who has not transitioned to the afterlife and remains attached to the physical world. There are several reasons why a spirit may become earthbound:

Unfinished business: The spirit may have unresolved issues or unfinished business that needs to be taken care of before it can move on. This could include delivering a message to loved ones, completing a task, resolving a conflict, solving a mystery, or asking for forgiveness.

Sudden or traumatic death: Spirits who have experienced a sudden, unexpected, or traumatic death may not realize that they have died. They may be confused or unaware of their new state, causing them to remain stuck in the physical realm.

Fear of moving on: Fear of the unknown, fear of punishment, or fear of leaving loved ones behind can cause a spirit to cling to the physical world. They may be afraid of what awaits them in the afterlife because of religious beliefs, shame or guilt.

Attachment: Strong attachments to people, places, or physical possessions can keep a spirit bound to the earthly plane. This attachment may stem from a deep emotional connection or a reluctance to let go of their physical life.

Protectiveness: A desire to protect or watch over loved ones can motivate a spirit to remain earthbound. They may feel that their presence is necessary to guide or protect their family members or friends.

Earthbound spirits are often the focus of rescue mediums who can help these lost souls communicate their needs or messages so that they can release their attachments and transition peacefully to the afterlife.

If you are uncomfortable with the idea of communicating with spirits, it’s perfectly fine to let the spirit know that you are uncomfortable, which will usually result in the contact ceasing, although in some cases it may continue and require more decisive intervention, preferably with expert assistance.

Regardless of the level of communication or type of interaction, engaging with the spirit realm can be an exciting and fulfilling experience. When you feel a spirit trying to communicate, remember that they usually have a significant reason for doing so. Consider it an honor that they have chosen to reach out to you.
