From Believing To Knowing

Last week, a new friend asked me to teach him how to have this ‘knowing’ that I have. But I really have no idea how to do that? I never experienced a transition from believing to knowing. The ‘knowing’ has always just been there.

I have always felt that the spirit realm is our true connection to home. As the years passed, I began more and more to view planet Earth as our schoolroom. And boy can we get some lessons while we are here!

When I think back, I have recollections of spirit activity around me from when I was about five or six years old. My parents and I were living in Ottawa, Canada, at the time, where my dad had recently been employed. We were temporarily living in a creepy rental home, until my father found his feet and we would be able to move to a house with better vibes.

I recall seeing and hearing shadow beings in the hallway of that eerie house in Ottawa, and I remember telling my mother about the paranormal activity I sensed there. But she thought I was just imagining things, or seeking attention. I also recall lying in bed, scared, listening to what sounded like chattering voices. The energy in that old place wasn’t malevolent, but it didn’t feel benevolent either.

The most profound experience occurred when I was just nine years old. We had moved back to the United Kingdom and were visiting family friends. They were hosting a party, and the kids were sent off to bed, while the adults carried on with their social event below.

Unable to sleep, I was staring up at the ceiling. Suddenly it opened up, like a sliding window, and there they were… an apparition of my beautiful angels. That vision seems as vivid now as it was back then.

The spiritual experience of ‘knowing’ seems to differ from religious faith, from what I can gather. I formed this opinion after talking to many people about this topic. I can only answer people’s questions by relying on my own experiences. It has to be somewhat challenging to grasp the feeling of ‘knowing,’ without having had any experience, perhaps?

For me, there is a certainty about what I feel. I simply know that the spirit realm is real. There exists much more than just this physical realm. However, despite my innate ‘knowing,’ it is not any easier for me when a loved one or a beloved pet crosses over to the Other Side. The void and the grief is the same.

I have spoken to many people of diverse religious backgrounds and belief systems, who moved from either being a non-believer, or a believer, to an actual ‘knowing.’ In many cases it took a near-death experience or some other profound, life-altering event for them to become a ‘knower.’

Some arrive at a state of ‘knowing’ due to a deep state of depression, addiction, or having suicidal thoughts, when suddenly they become aware of a spiritual presence, such as a bright light, which cause an abrupt change of awareness or perception. Many also say that while they have these spiritual experiences, it feels as if there is a direct transference of thought, ideas or information, from another dimension.

Knowing and believing are sometimes hard to combine ~ Maria V. Snyder

Shifting from a state of believing, to knowing, changes the way one thinks and views the world. Choosing a more simplistic way of life, is often one of the changes that many awakened people embrace.

Whatever state of believing, or non-believing, we find ourselves in, it will bring with it the life experiences and people around us necessary for the lessons we are meant to learn in this lifetime. Neither state is right or wrong. If your experiences currently are to be those of the materialistic world, then your higher self will choose for you to be more focused on matters of this world. If you are seeking spiritual answers to life’s riddle, you will seek a spiritual path and find the necessary signs and mentors along your way.
