The Spiritual Power Of Choosing To Forgive

FREE psychic reading at PsychicAccess.com, Click Here NOW!!!Forgiveness is a much-discussed topic in spiritual circles. It is also often deeply misunderstood.

Forgiveness does not mean condoning wrongdoing or accepting abuse or cruelty. Instead, it involves choosing not to carry the darkness and negativity that has been inflicted upon you, and refusing to allow it to affect your well-being, either physically or emotionally.

While it’s ideal to find compassion for those who have wronged you, it’s not always possible. Understand that those who caused you harm are often suffering themselves.

Happy and fulfilled people are naturally kind, generous, and honest. In contrast, those consumed by self-loathing and misery tend to spread chaos and cruelty. Their relationships are full of conflict and dissatisfaction.

I once worked with a man who was clearly struggling with mental illness. Circumstances placed us in a business relationship that I initially tried to avoid, preferring to distance myself from unhealthy situations. However, I was compelled to help him because I was told that my true role was to support his children and providing help where it was needed most.

This unfortunate man is consumed by rage from his own traumatic past-abuse by his mother, mistreatment by her successive husbands, and conflict with his first ex-wife. His life is a testament to the destructive power of unresolved anger and lack of forgiveness. His toxic energy is rooted in past hurts and a cycle of inflicting pain on others.

It’s not an easy journey, to get to a place where you forgive people. But it is such a powerful place, because it frees you ~ Tyler Perry

In our professional interactions I constantly tried to guide him gently toward healing and forgiveness, but his deeply entrenched anger and lack of empathy led to a deteriorating mental state. Despite my repeated warnings about the potential negative impact on his daughters, he stubbornly chose not to change his ways.

As predicted, his oldest daughter became a drug addict, and his youngest distanced herself from him completely. His wife eventually divorced him, and even after our business relationship ended, he stalked me for months. All the while, I held out hope for his recovery and healing.

Instead of harboring anger toward him, I continue to pray for healing for him and his children. I refuse to let his negativity affect my own family. My children are healthy, happy, and thriving.

Holding on to resentment would only serve to imprison me emotionally, not him. It would not change his life or his karma, but it would poison my own. By choosing forgiveness, I liberated myself from his toxic influence and protected my children from his negativity. The last thing I want is for his toxic energy to linger in my heart and mind and the lives of my loved ones.

Forgiveness is not a feeling; it is a commitment. It is a choice to show mercy, not to hold the offence up against the offender. Forgiveness is an expression of love ~ Gary Chapman

Spiritual Benefits Of Forgiveness

Forgiveness, beyond the immediate emotional and physical benefits of releasing negativity, also carries profound spiritual implications and benefits for the forgiver. Forgiveness is an act of spiritual empowerment. Through forgiveness, you not only release negative emotions but also embrace a path of spiritual enlightenment and karmic liberation. Here are some key benefits to consider:

Inner Peace, Balance & Alignment: Forgiveness leads to inner peace. By letting go of grudges and resentment, you free yourself from the burden of anger and bitterness. This liberation allows you to experience a state of tranquility, balance and a harmonious alignment with your higher self.

Compassion & Empathy: By forgiving others, you develop a greater capacity for compassion and empathy. Understanding that others may act out of their own pain or suffering can deepen your ability to connect with and support others on their spiritual journey. This heightened empathy enhances your relationships and contributes to a sense of unity with all beings. It also sets a beautiful example if you are in the role of parent or role-model to others.

Healing & Wholeness: Forgiving leads to personal healing and a sense of wholeness. It allows you to integrate and release past wounds, which can be deeply liberating and transformative. This process of healing contributes to a more integrated and balanced spiritual self.

Emotional Resilience: Forgiveness fosters emotional resilience by helping you manage and overcome negative emotions. This resilience is not only beneficial for personal well-being but also for navigating spiritual challenges. It allows you to maintain your inner strength and focus on higher spiritual goals despite external difficulties.

Spiritual Growth: Forgiveness is a pathway to spiritual growth. It challenges you to rise above ego-driven reactions and to cultivate qualities such as humility, patience, generosity, wisdom, and most of all unconditional love. Many spiritual teachings emphasize the importance of embodying these values in your life. By practicing forgiveness, you align yourself with these higher ideals and demonstrate a commitment to living according to spiritual principles.

Karmic Release: Many spiritual traditions view forgiveness as a way to release karmic bonds. Holding onto grudges and resentment creates negative karma that binds you to the past. By forgiving, you break these bonds and alter your karmic trajectory, leading to more positive outcomes in your spiritual journey and soul evolution.

Divine Connection: Forgiveness enhance your connection to the divine. It involves surrender and trust in a higher power or universal wisdom. This act of surrender strengthens your relationship with the divine and deepens your spiritual connection.

Spiritual Teachings On Forgiveness

Many traditional spiritual and esoteric teachings offer perspectives on forgiveness, emphasizing its profound importance for personal growth, spiritual enlightenment, and harmony in relationships. Here’s an overview of how some traditions approach the concept of forgivess as a spiritual principle and practice:

Anthroposophy: Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophy includes the idea of inner transformation. Forgiveness is part of this process, allowing the individual to transform negative experiences and emotions into spiritual insight and growth by aligning with higher spiritual truths.

Buddhism: Buddhism emphasizes forgiveness as a practice for overcoming suffering and attaining enlightenment. It teaches that holding onto anger and resentment creates suffering and hinders spiritual progress. Forgiveness is seen as a means of releasing these negative emotions and is closely related to the cultivation of compassion (karuna) and loving-kindness (metta). These qualities help to dissolve the barriers of ill will and hatred. The concept of non-self further teaches that personal grievances are part of an illusory ego, and letting go of them helps to realize the interconnectedness of all beings.

Christianity: In Christian teachings, forgiveness is central and often seen as a reflection of God’s love and mercy. Jesus taught the importance of forgiving others, as seen in the Lord’s Prayer (“Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”) and in parables such as the prodigal son. It aligns believers with Christ’s example of unconditional love. Christians are encouraged to forgive not just seven times, but seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22), symbolizing forgiveness without limit. Forgiveness is seen as a path to healing and salvation for both the forgiver and the forgiven.

Gnosticism: In Gnostic teachings, transcending duality is central to understanding the material and spiritual worlds. Forgiveness, in this context, helps individuals rise above the illusion of separation and reconnect with the divine source, overcoming the dualistic nature of the physical world.

Hermeticism: Hermetic teachings include the concept of inner alchemy, in which the transformation of the self is analogous to the transformation of base metals into gold. Forgiveness is essentially a process of inner alchemical transformation that transforms negative emotions and experiences into spiritual enlightenment and personal growth.

Hinduism: In Hinduism, forgiveness is an integral part of spiritual practice and moral duty. It is considered a virtue that upholds dharma (moral order) and is essential for personal and spiritual growth. Forgiving others is seen as a way to mitigate negative karma and progress toward moksha (liberation). Holding grudges binds one to the cycle of rebirth and suffering. The practice of forgiveness helps to transcend the ego and realize one’s true nature, which is beyond personal grievances.

Judaism: In Judaism forgiveness is a profoundly important principle, integral to personal growth and communal harmony. Judaism teaches that God is compassionate and forgiving, as reflected in the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. These are times for introspection, repentance (teshuvah), and seeking God’s forgiveness. The Torah also emphasizes repairing relationships and seeking reconciliation, as outlined in the commandments to seek forgiveness from those one has wronged. The process of teshuvah involves sincere repentance, making amends, and striving to change one’s behavior.

Kabbalah: Kabbalistic teachings often emphasize the unity of all creation and the divine presence in everything. Forgiveness is consistent with the process of reconciling and integrating opposites, which is crucial to achieving unity with the Divine and understanding the interconnectedness of all things.

Neo-Paganism: Many Pagan traditions emphasize personal responsibility and growth. Forgiveness is seen as a means of personal liberation and self-healing. It allows individuals to release negative emotions and move forward with a clearer, more balanced perspective. Some Pagan paths include healing rituals and practices. Forgiveness may be a part of these rituals, which aim to release past grievances and emotional blockages and promote emotional and spiritual well-being.

Rosicrucianism: In Rosicrucianism, inner alchemy involves spiritual purification and transformation of the self. Forgiveness plays a role in this process by helping to purify the heart and mind, allowing for deeper spiritual awakening and transformation.

Santo Daime: In Santo Daime, the use of ayahuasca is seen as a means of spiritual and emotional healing. Forgiveness is an integral part of this process, helping to address and heal past wounds and traumas, leading to personal and spiritual transformation.

Sufism (Islamic mysticism): Sufism emphasizes the transformative power of forgiveness and its role in spiritual development. Forgiveness is seen as a reflection of God’s infinite love and mercy. Sufis seek to emulate these divine qualities in their own lives, and it is seen as a means of cleansing the heart (qalb) of negative emotions such as anger and hatred, which hinder spiritual growth and closeness to God. Through forgiveness, Sufis seek to transcend the ego and achieve unity with the divine essence.

Taoism: Taoism views forgiveness as an expression of harmony and alignment with the Tao (The Way). It is seen as part of living in harmony with the natural flow of life. It involves letting go of resistance and embracing the Tao’s principles of harmony and balance. The Taoist concept of wu wei (non-action or effortless action) relates to forgiveness by encouraging a non-adversarial approach to conflict and grievances. Forgiving others helps maintain inner peace and allows one to live in harmony with the Tao.

Theosophy: Theosophical teachings emphasize spiritual development and healing. Forgiveness is seen as a crucial element in healing past traumas and aligning with one’s higher self, contributing to spiritual growth and the development of a higher consciousness.

Wicca: In Wicca forgiveness is intertwined with important Wiccan principles and practices. For example, the Wiccan Rede, a central ethical guideline in Wicca, states, “An it harm none, do what ye will.” This principle encourages practitioners to act with compassion and to avoid causing harm. Forgiveness is part of this ethic, as it helps to address and heal any harm that may have occurred. Wicca also emphasizes the balance of energies and the Law of Threefold Return, which teaches that the energy you send out returns to you threefold. Forgiveness helps to release negative energies and restore balance so that the energy you project is positive and harmonious.

The remedy for life’s broken pieces is not classes, workshops or books. Don’t try to heal the broken pieces. Just forgive ~ Iyanla Vanzant

How To Truly Forgive

Truly forgiving someone involves a deep transformative process that goes beyond simply thinking or saying the words. It’s a self-empowering journey of healing and release that requires courage, introspection, compassion, and often significant emotional work. Here’s a comprehensive approach to truly forgiving someone:

ACKNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPT

Begin by acknowledging and accepting your feelings of hurt, anger, or betrayal. Denying or suppressing these feelings can hinder the forgiveness process. Give yourself permission to feel and express your feelings. It’s important to process the pain before you can let it go completely. Consider how the wrongdoing has affected you emotionally, mentally, and physically. This helps to clarify the depth of the hurt and the need for forgiveness.

PRACTICE EMPATHY

Recognize that forgiving someone doesn’t mean condoning their actions or excusing their behavior. It means releasing the hold that the action has on your well-being. Work on developing empathy for the person who hurt you. Understand that their actions were likely influenced by their own struggles and issues. Try to understand their perspective. This doesn’t excuse their behavior, but it can provide insight into their motivations and circumstances. Remember that everyone is fallible and may be acting out of their own pain or ignorance.

CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSE

Forgiveness is a conscious choice. Decide that you want to let go of the negative feelings and move on with your life. Actively work on letting go of any lingering resentment or desire for revenge. This may include affirmations or rituals to symbolize your commitment to forgiveness.

COMMUNICATE (if appropriate)

Express your forgiveness. When it feels right and safe, communicate your forgiveness to the person involved. This can be done through a letter, a conversation, or simply in your own heart. Forgiving someone doesn’t necessarily mean continuing the relationship as it was. It’s important to set healthy boundaries to protect yourself from future harm. Note however that complete forgiveness does not necessarily require this step. You can truly forgive without informing or involving the wrongdoer.

FORGIVE YOURSELF

Often we hold onto guilt or self-blame about the situation. Practice self-compassion and forgive yourself for any perceived shortcomings or mistakes. Engage in practices that promote emotional and physical healing, such as therapy, meditation, or journaling. Engage in acts of kindness and compassion towards yourself and others. This helps to shift your focus from past grievances to positive actions.

MOVE FORWARD

Focus your energy on healing and personal growth. Let forgiveness only be a first step toward a healthier and more fulfilling life. Use this experience as a catalyst for positive change in your life. Set new goals and aspirations that align with your healed and renewed self.

SEEK SUPPORT

If you find the process particularly challenging, consider seeking the support of a therapist or counselor. They can provide tools and strategies to help you on your journey. Connect with supportive friends or spiritual communities who can offer encouragement and insight.

True forgiveness is a profound act of liberation and personal transformation. It requires patience, introspection, and a willingness to heal and move forward. By taking these steps, you can achieve a state of forgiveness that brings peace to your heart and your life.

Remember also that forgiveness is usually not a one-time event, but an ongoing practice in our life journey. Be prepared to revisit and reaffirm your commitment to forgiveness as needed. Understand that personal growth is a continuous process. Continue to reflect on your experiences and integrate them into a more compassionate and forgiving outlook on life.

Ultimately, we have a choice: remain trapped in a karmic mental prison with the memories and resentments of our pain, or embrace inner peace, compassion, growth and enlightenment. I choose the latter.
