Releasing Resistance Transforms Your Life
Many years ago I traveled to Sedona, Arizona to attend a teacher training program for The Sedona Method. Little did I know that I was about to discover one of the most important keys to a happy and fulfilling life.
I soon found myself in a conference room filled with psychiatrists, psychologists, and doctors from all over the world. I was a young mother and an novice psychic reader. I didn’t feel on the same professional level as the doctors and behavioral health professionals in the room. I felt intimidated, uncomfortable, and wanted nothing more than to go home.
But within the first few days of training, my worst nightmare came true. The trainer asked me to come to the front of the room and stand facing everyone.
“Oh no,” I thought to myself. “Why in the world did I even come to this class?”
He asked me to demonstrate one of the resistance release techniques he had taught us to a psychiatrist sitting in the front row. My knees were shaking and my heart was racing. But there was no escape, so I decided to just do it. It was a terrifying experience at the time, but it was also one of the best things that ever happened to me!
The Sedona Method is a technique designed to help you release the resistance created by painful or unwanted emotions, allowing you to experience greater personal freedom and well-being. The method involves a series of questions that help you become aware of your feelings and gently encourage you to release them. Resistance is often the cause of suffering in relationships, financial health, career, and all other areas of life.
To let go is to release the images and emotions, the grudges and fears, the clingings and disappointments of the past that bind our spirit ~ Jack Kornfield
The Barriers Of Resistance
But what exactly is ‘resistance’? Resistance is essentially an unconscious response to core fears. These fears create a mindset and patterns of behavior that compel us to try to control, change, or seek approval from people or situations in order to feel safe. When we respond to these core fears, we often act in ways that are not aligned with our highest good or best outcomes.
Consider how often we resist uncomfortable emotions such as anger, sadness, or fear. Instead of allowing these emotions to flow through us, we push them away, suppress them, or distract ourselves. This resistance creates tension, both physically and emotionally, and prevents us from moving forward in life.
In a spiritual or esoteric context, resistance is also the inner struggle or opposition we experience when trying to align with our higher self and divine purpose. It can manifest as a reluctance or refusal to accept change, to let go of old patterns, or to embrace your spiritual truth and inner guidance. These self-limitations and negative emotions create barriers to personal and spiritual growth and fulfillment.
In energy work and manifestation, resistance is the hidden energy blockages that prevent you from achieving your desired results. It arises from inner conflicts and energy imbalances when our thoughts, beliefs or fears are not aligned with our dreams and goals. Resistance manifests as doubt, fear, anxiety, reluctance to let go of the familiar, and most importantly, a lack or scarcity mindset that pushes away our blessings and prevents us from attracting our highest good.
When you operate from a state of conscious resistance, or an unconscious energy vibration of resistance, or both, it disrupts the alignment between your intentions and the energy you project into the universe. This misalignment can delay or block the manifestation process. To manifest your desires effectively, it is critical to identify and release resistance by addressing underlying fears, limiting beliefs, unhealed wounds, or attachments to the status quo.
Surrender — the letting go of mental-emotional resistance to what is — also becomes a portal into the Unmanifested. The reason for this is simple: inner resistance cuts you off from other people, from yourself, from the world around you ~ Eckhart Tolle
Letting Go Of Resistance
A simple way to demonstrate resistance is to hold a pen in the palm of your hand. Place the pen sideways so that you can squeeze it tightly. Grasp the pen and squeeze it until your grip becomes uncomfortable. Feel the tension in your hand. Now let go of the pen. Let it fall to the floor.
This simple act of letting go of the pen mirrors what we can do with negative emotions, unfounded fears, old wounds, and false beliefs. We don’t have to hold on to them so tightly. Feelings are like clouds in the sky – always coming and going and changing shape. They do not define who we are; they are simply part of our experience in the moment.
When we let go of resistance, we return to our original state of inner being-a state of peace, neutrality, receptivity, and creativity. In this state we align with the universal flow and accept things as they are, without the need to control or change them. It is in this space of surrender that life begins to flow effortlessly and positive change happens organically.
However, releasing resistance is not about “erasing” all negative emotions. Emotions are valuable messengers that help us understand deeper truths, guide our choices, and attract our highest good. It’s only when we try to suppress, cling to, or resist our negative emotions that they become problematic. For example, if you’re holding on to resentment or fear and it’s preventing you from moving forward, it’s a sign that it’s time to let it go.
When we release resistance, we feel lighter, happier, and more at peace. Life begins to flow with greater ease. We become more present and open to the beauty of each moment. Releasing resistance doesn’t mean giving up or becoming passive; it means freeing ourselves from unnecessary struggle and allowing life to unfold as it is meant to.
Over the years, I’ve seen the transformative power of this practice, not only in my own life, but in the lives of others. By learning to let go, we reconnect with our natural state of being – a state of joy, clarity and love.
Going to Sedona all those years ago was the beginning of a profound transformation for me. Through the Sedona Method, I learned that releasing resistance is one of the most powerful tools for creating a fulfilling and meaningful life. Whether you’re facing challenges in relationships, career or personal growth, this practice can help you navigate life with greater ease and grace. Remember, the key to freedom is already within you. All it takes is a willingness to let go.
Negative emotion is your indicator of resistance, while positive emotion is your indicator of allowance. And they are on the same meter: allowance; resistance, allowance, resistance ~ Abraham-Hicks
