Don’t Panic, It May Just Be A Divine Intervention!

From the beginning of my spiritual career, my guides taught me that we are given three things in life: opportunity, choice, and free will. Simply put, when we choose from the options that are presented to us, we exercise our right to free will and largely determine our own future.

While this is quite an empowering thought for most of us, there are times in our lives when Spirit feels that we are very much on the wrong track and will actually change our circumstances for us. While this does not happen very often, I will use my own situation as an example of why they do sometimes interfere with our free will.

Back in 1984, when I was 24 years old, all I wanted to be was a stenotypist. I was so determined to get what was then considered a very prestigious job that I went to college, worked hard, passed my exams, was proactive, and finally got a job with the local government.

I could not believe my luck, as the salary was about £5,000 per year, which is about $6,300 – certainly not bad almost 32 years ago! I thought I had struck gold, but things got even better when I started dating the man who worked in the office next door. Life could not be better (or so I thought) as I had the man, the career, the money – everything!  Unfortunately, disaster soon struck.

My boyfriend left me, the girls in the office made fun of me, my boss and his secretary bullied me, and finally I lost my job. Suddenly I found myself in the middle of a recession, with no relationship, no job, no money, no prospects, and I couldn’t even get a reference!

Why, oh why, did this happen to me? I didn’t deserve this! I had worked so hard. I am a good person. I always strive to be a decent friend and colleague. Yet, I was being treated so unfairly.

Two long hard years went by, during which I got into quite a bit of debt and literally had to fight my way out of impending poverty.  Then one day, in the early spring of 1986, I got a temp job as a secretary on a construction site. I literally hated it, but it paid my bills and I stuck with the job.

Towards the end of the contract I started dating one of the civil engineers on the site  and later married him. We also have a lovely son who has just entered his 20s. I live in a nice house, earn a decent income, and literally do a job I love, which is helping other people.

So, what is the moral of the story?

Well, I was never meant to be a stenotypist – no disrespect to that profession, of course. I was meant to be a psychic, because that is where I get the most job satisfaction. But my ego got in the way, which is usually what causes people to lose their way.

I was also not meant to be with the boyfriend who dumped me. No, I was meant to be with a much stronger and more loving man, like the one I married. If the first guy hadn’t left me and I hadn’t lost my job, I never would have met my husband.

Also, the ordeal I went through in the 80’s gave me, I feel, a deeper understanding of people, their problems, and how to help them. So my struggles were not in vain.

I am certainly not saying that people have to suffer to get from where they are to where they want to be. Far from it. But what I am saying is that the path I was on wasn’t the right one for me. Through divine intervention, the universe changed my path, and while there was a strong element of challenge involved, I will never, ever regret the new direction I was led to take.

So, if you currently feel that you may be on the wrong path, and no matter how hard you try to make it work, you keep finding that circumstances are pushing you in a different direction that makes no sense, then know that it is most likely God, Source, Spirit, the Divine, who is guiding you in the best direction for your highest good.

One day, like me, you may just look back and be very grateful to Spirit for leading you elsewhere. Where you have been is not as important as where you are going. With the support and inspiration of the Divine, no matter where you are now, you will undoubtedly end up in a better place. Trust the process and stop wasting precious energy trying to resist the inevitability of the universal flow. Spirit has your back.
