Free Yourself From Karmic Debt This Year
With the start of a new year, many of us are eager to set new financial goals and improve our overall financial situation. For those struggling with debt, the new year can be a great time to take control of your finances and make a plan to get out of debt.
But there is more to our life journey than financial debt. There is also the much more important soul debt known as our karma. A debt that for some of us may require much more urgent attention.
Karmic debt is the result of all the negative actions we take in this life, and in past lives, that have consequences beyond our present existence. If we accumulate bad karma through actions that cause harm to others or ourselves, we will experience negative consequences in this life, or in a future life. These karmic consequences will in time manifest as difficulties, challenges, obstacles and sufering in our lives. Similarly, if we accumulate good karma through deeds that benefit others, we will experience positive consequences such as abundance, happiness, health, and success.
If you feel persistently stuck in some kind of negative cycle, burdened by what feels like repeated bad luck, hard times, or difficult relationships, karmic debt is most likely playing a role. Breaking these patterns requires that you take responsibility for your misdeeds or inappropriate actions in the past.
When you truly understand karma, then you realize you are responsible for everything in your life ~ Keanu Reeves
Sometimes people are cynical about the consequences of negative karma. They see others who behave badly, act unkindly, commit cruel deeds, and yet seem to have all the happiness and good fortune. They wonder how karma, if it is real, can be so random and unfair.
Know that just because someone else has a run of ‘good luck’ doesn’t mean they are free of karmic debt or that their apparent ‘good fortune’ will last forever. The consequences of karmic debt manifest themselves in many different and often unforeseen ways. While it is possible for someone with a lot of karmic debt to experience a temporary burst of good fortune, their karma will eventually catch up with them, often in ways they never anticipated. Everything comes at a price.
For your own sake, do not base your own moral compass and karmic choices on how others choose to live their lives. Appearances can be very, very deceiving. Instead, trust Spirit and your Higher Self to guide you in the right direction.
The process of paying off karmic debt is not always easy, but it is essential for spiritual growth, personal fulfillment and your soul evolution. It is an opportunity to correct your past mistakes or misdeeds, and it is accomplished by growing or evolving so that you can learn the karmic lessons you previously missed and break the negative cycle of bad karma.
Karmic debt usually accumulates over time, but sometimes it can literally accumulate overnight. Often it also carries interest from previous incarnations, depending on how we behaved in previous lives. However, the time frame and origin is not the most important thing. What is more important is our awareness and acknowledgement that such a debt has been incurred, and our commitment to repay or repair it.
Karmic debt can add up significantly over time for the careless individual, much like a ‘cosmic credit card debt’ that carries substantial interest and penalties because it is neglected, disregarded, repaid haphazardly, or simply not dealt with at all.
This is your karma. You do not understand now, but you will understand later. The source of pain is within your own larger expression of being ~ Raven Rose
When you realize that you have been neglecting your karmic responsibilities, what should you do next? Some people have the foolish inclination to ignore it and just hope it all goes away. Then there are those who sabotage themselves even more by burdening their unfortunate souls with additional karmic debt, like they are shopping at a Black Friday sale!
The spiritually wise and responsible person will naturally want to get rid of this burden as soon as possible. When we are wise enough to finally recognize and accept the karmic predicament we have created for ourselves, we become more able to examine our debt carefully and decide the best course of action to make it right.
So, how exactly do we pay off our karmic debt? Well, it is done in pretty much the same way that one would deal with bad credit in monetary terms. In other words, be much more careful with your spending, cut back on frivolous expenses, work longer hours, get a second job, and so on.
In other words, to make reparations for our karmic debt, we must stop adding to it by changing our behavior, eliminating our bad habits, and working harder to become a better person. The goal is to start adding more value to the lives of others by being of service and helping to make the world a better place.
Simply put, you get rid of your karmic debt by giving more and taking less. The most important thing is to focus on living a good life, being of service, and treating others with kindness, tolerance, and compassion.
The opposite of karmic debt is karmic merit, or reward. Karmic merit is the positive karma we build up through our good deeds and intentions. Just as karmic debt can manifest in our lives as difficulties and challenges, karmic merit manifests as blessings, opportunities and fulfillment.
Before you act, you have freedom, but after you act, the effect of that action will follow you whether you want it to or not. That is the law of karma ~ Paramahansa Yogananda
When we have karmic merit, we are more likely to experience abundance, prosperity, good health and positive relationships. We may also find it easier to achieve our goals and overcome difficulties. Here are some ways to build karmic merit:
– Be helpful and kind to others.
– Practice forgiveness and compassion.
– Live a life of integrity and honesty.
– Contribute to the common good.
– Develop your spiritual practice.
By cultivating karmic merit, we create a more positive and fulfilling life for ourselves and others. We can also break free from the cycle of karmic debt and experience the blessings that come from living a life of virtue, service, and compassion.
So, here is my sage advice for the highest good of your mind, body and soul in the coming year. Make it a New Year’s resolution to not only diligently pay off more of your outstanding karmic debts, but also to set yourself up in life so that you do not accumulate any more of it. Your soul will thank you later.
