Unconditional Love From The Rainbow Bridge
Sometimes pet owners connect with the souls of their animals on a very deep level. We love them so much that when they finally depart from this life the grief and sadness can be just as agonizing as losing a human loved one. This was the case recently for me when we lost our beloved family cat.
I had to finally make the difficult decision to release him from his pain and suffering. And thus our ‘little black panther,’ as we call him, departed this world to cross the Rainbow Bridge.
He had been suffering with a malignant tumor under his tongue. Bone cancer we were told. Earlier this year, I knew there was something more going on after a dental appointment to have an infected tooth removed. His little chin continued to swell up and the antibiotics were not working.
We did all we could. We made sure he had the best, soft food, and lots of love. The faucet in the tub was left slightly open to drip, so he could have water from his favorite place to get it fresh and cold.
On the day he was to be euthanized, the Moon was in Capricorn. A Capricorn Moon is a time of seriousness, when duty calls. It is a lunar influence that requires us to make difficult, yet responsible decisions, and to remain steadfast and determined in doing what we know is best and necessary.
Our little black panther seemed carefree and at peace. He had been lying next to me all night on a nearby bookshelf. It was a very sunny day and the breeze felt nice to him as he sat up and looked out the open window. He was free of pain, as we had been giving him medication to make him more comfortable.
Two of his brothers took turns sitting next to him. We took our time to say our final goodbyes. We also prayed and even put some holy water on him. Did everything we could. Cried lots of tears. It was very difficult. So awfully hard.
Then the time came for us to take our boy in to the clinic. He sensed it was time and seemed relieved. Even his brother, who was born in the same batch of kittens a minute before him, seemed to understand it was time, as snuck out the door hoping to come with us. We had to unlock the door and put him back inside. I telepathically explained to him that this brother loves him and so do we, but he could not go with us…we would be back shortly.
As soon as his spirit left his physical body, I experienced the usual communication I usually perceive in these moments. I have had several such spirit messages come to me from departed loved ones over the years at the time of their passing. This time the message that came through from our cat was simply one word: “colors.” It was his confirmation that he had made it to the Rainbow Bridge. He was now able to see all the beautiful colors he couldn’t see when he was in his physical body.
He then also guided us to a little black cat that needed a home, and we have since brought her home and named her Pumpkin. She is also a domestic short hair, like he was. She is very sweet and gets on well with our other cats. While it doesn’t take away our sadness, it is nice to have another little black cat that we can love unconditionally. This, I believe, is why we tend to feel the pain of losing a cat or dog so deeply – because they love us unconditionally. They stand by us through thick and thin. They are always there for us.
When you lose a dog or cat, you lose love, plain and simple. Love is hard to come by in our world, and love you get every day, no strings attached, is precious ~ Jon Katz
Cats have a way of conveying things to us in a way that humans cannot. They look us in the eye, they listen to us. Without judgement. They are truly present with us and always ready to love us. It may be with cuddles, lap hugs, licks, or even those slow, soft closing of eye hugs they do so well.
As a family we are deeply connected to all our cats, because we spend so much time with them and feel blessed to have them in our home. We cherish every single day with them because they are to us angels on earth.
We now also have an angel cat looking over us from heaven. We feel him and know he is happy, playing, free from pain, on the colorful Rainbow Bridge. I imagine him enjoying crisp cold water that flows eternally from a sacred fountain.
And someday, when it is our time to also go, he will be there to help guide us to the Other Side. We know that we will see you again, our sweet black panther. Meanwhile, know that we will always love you, just as unconditionally as you love us. Forever and always.
