What Reality Will You Create Today?
In this lifetime, it is important to remember that we are all the creators of our own realities, as well as the co-creators of our shared reality.
This means that as an individual we have the divine gift of free will. Free will is our personal power to make our own choices in life. It is one of the most important and valuable aspects of human existence because it allows us to determine our own fate and shape our own destiny.
Without free will, we would not be autonomous and responsible spiritual beings in human form. Instead, we would be robots, pre-programmed to act in a certain way. Being born with free will allows us to make moral choices, to love and be loved, and to create our own unique paths in life.
Of course, with free will comes responsibility and accountability. We are responsible for our own thoughts and actions, both good and bad. We must therefore think carefully about our choices and make sure that we are acting not only for our own highest good, but also for the greater good.
Free will also does not mean that we are completely free from the constraints of external circumstances and worldly influences. We also share a collective free will with the rest of humanity. Just as we create our own daily reality and shape our individual destiny, we also co-create a shared global reality with the rest of the world.
The essence of spiritual life is simply to use our free will properly ~ Radhanath Swami
This means that not only is our own path affected by every free will choice we make, but so is the path of humanity. It also means that there are things in life and circumstances in the world that are beyond our control.
Some people live their lives in a joyful and carefree way, seemingly free of stress, anxiety, tension, or fear. Sometimes others even resent the ease they see in these people’s lives. The truth is that these people do not live happier or more blessed lives because they are more deserving or special in the eyes of God, Source, Spirit, the Divine. They simply take better advantage of their free will.
In contrast, there are people who live with the idea that the world owes them something, or that they are victims of their circumstances, or somehow cursed with bad luck. Some even believe that a higher power or the universe has unfairly abandoned them, and that is why their lives are not what they want them to be. And, of course, there are also those who are convinced that they are being negatively affected by the ill will of others. Someone or something else is to blame for their misery, unhappiness or dissatisfaction.
The truth is that these unhappy, frustrated people have often arrived where they are in their lives through the free will choices they have made. Yes, it is often that simple! Most people who move through their lives with ease and joy have made choices to get themselves there. And while their lives may be flowing well now, that was not necessarily always the case for them.
Are we sometimes negatively impacted or even victimized by the co-creations of a shared human reality? Do we sometimes get the short end of the stick when it comes to the free will choices that society makes as a collective? Yes, definitely.
Does this mean that we do not have free will to overcome these hurdles, or to stand up to these injustices, or to somehow take back our power and rise above them? No. Our free will is our divine birthright and our personal responsibility.
Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
I have seen this play out repeatedly in my own life. Whenever I make a bad choice of free will, I usually struggle and have an unpleasant time until I make a better one. And while each bad experience brings with it an opportunity to move forward through lessons learned, it is much nicer and easier to do what is best for our highest good in the first place. It is really not necessary to always push against the flow of universal energy in order to gain an inch or two of higher ground.
The universe constantly presents us with opportunities for infinite abundance in health, happiness, growth, fulfillment and prosperity. We simply have to make the free will choices to attract and manifest these results. The thing to be aware of is that if you stay in your comfort zone for too long (especially if that comfort zone is not very “comfortable”), divine intervention will eventually kick you out of it, one way or another. Sometimes with very unpleasant and even disastrous consequences.
So, if you find that you’ve tried everything to make the path you’re on work for you, but nothing is getting easier and the fulfillment of your goals is not getting any closer, maybe it’s time to make a different choice of free will. Maybe it is time to reevaluate your goals, change your attitude or mindset, or somehow change your course of action to start creating a new personal reality.
Sometimes we need to take several missteps to finally find our footing on our true path. There are often karmic lessons we must learn before we can move forward and upward. These lessons of personal and spiritual growth are a result of the difficult terrains we sometimes choose to travel, until we finally awaken and change direction. The important next step is to reclaim the power of our divine free will and begin to make better choices for our highest good.
This brings us to the ultimate question of life: What free will choices will you make today?
