Healing The Spirit

Imagine a vehicle created today that will not only be able to assess, from an inner guidance system, any damage done to it at a given time, but also have the wherewithal to be able to make all the appropriate repairs by itself. We would most likely be lined up in droves to witness this immaculate event, because more than likely we would not trust that this could be true. We would have to experience for ourselves if it truly possible.

Do you remember, as a little kid, falling and skinning your knee? What did you do at the time? Did you just have mom clean it off, allow a scab to cover it, which is your body’s natural way of saying, “Let me put this protective coating on to make sure there is no further damage.” And then all you had to do was just let your knee recover and heal by itself, with no further help from anyone or anything, because your body knows inherently what to do.

Or have you ever fallen from a tree, breaking an arm? You were probably taken to the emergency room and had your injury assessed by a qualified physician, who then reset the arm,  placed it in a sling or cast. Then nature took over and the arm completely healed itself, which again is something the body automatically knows how to do.

Clearly, the greatest factor in healing is to trust that, regardless of whatever medical treatment we engage in, the healing is always and only through our own body’s efforts.

However, these types of wounds and injuries are more readily recognized and thus more open to options of particular treatments. But what about a headache or a concussion? These we do not see with the naked eye, however we do know they exist. We might take an aspirin for temporary relief, and simply spend time resting and creating an environment for the body to establish its own time frame for the healing process to take place.

The most critical and sometimes the most urgent health problems are those we do not openly recognize and they certainly can become the most painful. We have an array of convenient  diagnosis today. We may be suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, or an assortment of other ailments that are not always apparent. Some of these ailments manifest themselves after a traumatic or extremely challenging life event. We may lose a loved one, experience a painful breakup, or lose a job with no viable prospects in sight.

There are a myriad of potential occurrences that can create pain inside the spirit itself, that is no different from the physical pain we experience due to an accident or a severe illness. The difference is in how to recognize it and how to allow it to heal.

There is no pill on the planet that will relieve the pain of a spirit in agony. If you are feeling depleted, sad, lonely or unhappy, it can sometimes go so deep as to affect the spirit itself. What we do in this case is the same thing we do with a physical pain: we recognize it, accept that it is happening, and depend on our own spiritual healing to take place.

The confusion for most of us is to understand and trust that, despite the feeling of disconnection and misunderstanding. The spirit can be in complete pain, however the good news is that it can also heal itself. The biggest hurdle is to trust that it can be done through our own personal efforts.
