Clearing Your Chakras
With spring just around the corner, many of us have the urge to clean house. But did you know it’s just as important to do a spiritual cleansing? The perfect place to start is our seven chakras: the centers of energy in the human body. It’s just as important to conduct a regular spiritual health check as a physical health check, and for the same reasons.
Much like our cars or living spaces, our chakras don’t function correctly if they are neglected and left to ‘gather dust.’ When this happens our entire well-being is affected, from our physical and emotional health to our relationships with others.
Likewise, we won’t be at our best if we only focus on some, and not all of our chakras. Your car wouldn’t run if you gave it oil changes, but forgot to put air in the tires! The three upper chakras (Crown, Third Eye, Throat), the lower three (Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus) and the Heart Chakra, which ties them together, are all equally important.
Our own physical body possesses a wisdom which we who inhabit the body lack. We give it orders which make no sense ~ Henry Miller
When we internalize negative energy, such as jealousy or anger, or when we neglect to express emotion in a healthy way, our chakras suffer. The ability to let go and forgive (ourselves and others) is the most basic way to spiritually clean house. If we stop carrying ‘baggage’ around, it can no longer be there to negatively affect us.
Learning to change our thought patterns will also ensure that our chakras remain clear. Thinking positively, giving others the benefit of the doubt, and regularly forgiving, will eventually become habit. If it seems strange at first, keep doing it. It takes at least 30 days to build a new habit which will last, and this is one worth keeping.
In addition to performing spiritual exercises, we can also physically help to clear chakras. If you’re not already, become more physically active. Activities like Yoga or Tai Chi are low-impact and combine physical motion with meditation and conscious thought, plus it doesn’t take much money to get started. You could also treat yourself to a massage, chiropractic, acupressure or Reiki session. The healing power of touch is well-known and can aid in releasing physical and spiritual toxins. A sauna or sweat box can also help you to detoxify naturally. Finally, taking a walk outside each day and being present in nature is of tremendous benefit. Detoxification also includes unplugging technology, such as your phone and computer.
Each of the seven chakras are governed by spiritual laws, principles of consciousness that we can use to cultivate greater harmony, happiness, and wellbeing in our lives and in the world ~ Deepak Chopra
As you perform your chakra work, think about what each chakra represents and how clearing it of blockages will benefit you. You may wish to create a brief mantra or prayer to recite as you do this.
Don’t forget that all the chakras, just like the parts of a car, are working together for you to be your best possible self. If one is imbalanced, all of them will be. The very word ‘chakra’ means ‘wheel’ in Sanskrit. To keep the wheels turning in harmony, they must be in-tune individually and with one another.
