Processing Deep Emotions In Your Dreams
Disturbing, chaotic dreams or nightmares involving terror, violence or intense frustration can be extremely disturbing for the dreamer. When these dreams come around, it is not unusual to find yourself suddenly waking in the middle of the night, sitting bolt upright, shaken, and in a pool of perspiration. Some of my clients’ dreams are so hectic, they even ask me if they are possessed, or being punished!
Dream interpretation psychic readings may reveal that such a nightmare reflects a traumatic occurrence from the client’s past, which they fear may occur again. Constant fear of history repeating itself may be invading their thoughts. When we are emotionally and mentally in a place of darkness, our every thought tends to become distorted by fear.
My clients usually hope to find some enlightenment as to what their hectic dreams can possibly mean, and I do my best to interpret their nightmares the best way I know how. It can be most helpful when a psychic exposes the root cause of a frantic dream.
But I also do recall a dream expert, who gave a talk at a psychic fayre once, saying, “The very best person to interpret any type of dream is the dreamer themselves.” What a psychic can do is give their insight, but their interpretation should resonate with the client.
Bad dreams are ghosts of our fears and worries, haunting us while we sleep ~ Maria V. Snyder
Of course, I also have chaotic dreams of my own. I find that flashes of incidents, relating to previous days, sometimes make their way into my dreams somehow… creating a mishmash of stressful imagery during my dream state.
I recall discussing dreams with a psychologist friend some years ago. We used to share, as well as try to interpret one another’s dreams. She impressed upon me the idea that the time for processing our pain is during our sleeping hours, when we are not conscious. She felt this is the time for a soul to have a ‘spring clean,’ or for ‘repair work’ to take place.
Sometimes, during our waking hours, we may feel somewhat empty. When I have experienced this feeling of emptiness myself, I have found, through some soul-searching, that it has had to do with unresolved emotional hurt and anger, which I have placed into my storage box of pain, to be dealt with at another time… other than in daily life.
Some people have told me that they have never had a nightmare. Perhaps this might be a sign of how detached they are from processing their emotional pain? In some cases, this emotional pain can express itself inappropriately when anger slips out towards a loved one, completely unrelated to anything the loved one in question has said or done.
Such was the case with the late husband of a friend of mine. He passed away in his late 50s from a very aggressive type of cancer. Due to us both being members of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), the two of us had many long, interesting conversations during the few years I had the privilege of knowing him.
Of all the things you choose in life, you don’t get to choose what your nightmares are. You don’t pick them; they pick you ~ John Irving
He would always joke about how, unlike his wife, he always slept like a baby. He would joke about how this was due to his “squeaky clean conscience.” He used to get very angry though, and carried a lot of resentment toward his family, as well as the many injustices he perceived in the world. He would often snap at his wife too, completely unprovoked. It was only recently that I asked myself whether his lack of intense dreams actually might have been a negative thing… in not giving him the opportunity to process deep-seated issues?
If we choose to view our stressful dreams and nightmares as our soul’s way of renewing and of rejuvenating us, they might be much easier to handle. For example, such dreams may be a prompt from our higher self to reach out to someone who appeared in the dream, with whom we have hurtful unresolved issues. Perhaps spirit is encouraging us to reach out and to build bridges with them? If we have issues with a person who has passed, the dream can prompt us to pray, and to communicate with the same intention, but with the soul who has crossed over. They too will feel the healing offered. It’s a win–win healing situation, whether they are in spirit form or present in this world.
