Are You Experiencing A Spiritual Awakening?
Doing psychic readings, I sometimes talk to someone who thinks they are ‘going crazy,’ but in actuality they are experiencing symptoms of spiritual awakening. But how does one recognize the common symptoms of spiritual awakening?
The term ‘spiritual awakening’ is somewhat overused these days in metaphysical circles. Just about anyone who has a ‘woo-woo’ moment, or gains deeper insight into a situation, or suddenly sees chakra colors, seems to believe they are having a true, full-blown ‘spiritual awakening.’
Spiritual awakening does tend to occur spontaneously, and from what I’ve witnessed, the more open-minded the person is and the less attached to outcomes they are, the more available or ‘ripe’ they are for a spiritual awakening to occur.
Just the other day a client was telling me of her experience while peeling a carrot over the kitchen sink. She said she was looking down at her hands, watching them, and wondering what was animating them? It can be a strange moment when you discover that you are not really who you thought you were. It can be disorienting, to say the least, to see yourself from such an objective position. However, if you know ahead of time that this is perfectly normal, and others have experienced these signs too, it can make your life a lot easier.
It’s exhilarating to be alive in a time of awakening consciousness; it can also be confusing, disorienting, and painful ~ Adrienne Rich
Here are is a list of common symptoms that many people experience with a spiritual awakening:
- You have major changes happening in either your personal relationships or at work with your career.
- You have moments where you see yourself differently as a person. You realize that thoughts about you are merely just thoughts, and not real. This may feel disorienting in some way like your identity is being dismantled. What is happening is you are shedding layers of perceived concepts of how others saw you, and getting closer to who you actually are as your true and authentic self.
- You feel like you’re breaking through a matrix. You start noticing things or people in a whole new way, without any labels through fresh eyes. For example, you might look at a flower without thinking of the word flower, and see it with the realization of how beautiful it is, or that you are it and become one with it. Things in the world also tend to appear much clearer and brighter.
- You wake up in the middle of the night at the same time each night.
- You have difficulty being in crowded places and need more quiet time than usual.
- You feel a sense of aloneness and have trouble relating to the same people you used to be friendly with.
- You have a true yearning or desire to know who or what life is about! You know intuitively there is a grander picture and that the stories in your life are just stories and that you are much bigger than them.
- You no longer feel motivated to take the typical path in life that most others are on. There is little or no excitement in chasing after things, and you see most people who are doing this as though they are in a deep trance.
- You have a burning desire to travel or go on a pilgrimage to a sacred place.
- You become aware of something greater running though you and everything in life.
- You sense a vastness or expansiveness that goes on into infinity.
Spiritual awakening is the most essential thing in man’s life, and it is the sole purpose of being. Is not civilization, in all its tragic forms, a supreme motive for spiritual awakening? ~ Khalil Gibran
If you are experiencing several of these symptoms, it’s time to get grounded. It helps so much to know this ahead of time so that you can be calm and clear. Here is a ‘to do’ list of remedies to choose from that help you to assimilate and integrate the shifts and changes you are undergoing:
- Sit on the earth. Literally get down on the floor, or outside on the grass, either in a comfortable seated position or lying down. This helps you get connected to the life force and healing powers of nature. Gravity is Mother Earth’s way of holding you and hugging you close.
- Sip on some chamomile or lavender tea for calming and soothing effects.
- Talk with a trusted psychic advisor about your situation to get an objective perspective and deeper insight into your situation. Ask spirit to help you with this specific aspect of your situation, rather than trying to tackle everything at once.
- Go for more walks outdoors. Do some gentle stretching each night before bedtime.
- Go to your local library or bookshop to see if any books pop out at you. There is most likely a message in it for you and will help you through this time.
- Join a spiritual group or circle that appeals to you and talk to others there about what you’re experiencing. If you do not have a local circle in your area, you can find one online, or better yet, you can create your own! There are others out there who may be feeling the very same things you are.
- Get a back or foot massage. Touch is a great way of helping the body adjust and align to positive and new ways of thinking.
- Take a salt bath or hop in the jacuzzi. Warm water is one of the best remedies for relaxation. Water can be a magical elixir, and this also includes drinking more water and staying hydrated. Speak loving words into your water and then drink it.
- Carve out time to sit in quiet to receive the gift that spirit holds for you. Even if you just sit for a few minutes each day, your mind will begin to calm and you will be ripe for your own spiritual awakening.
- Remember that you are the infinite, vastness, light of consciousness, perfect being, whole and complete just as you are. Give yourself a big hug and thank yourself for being here in life and remembering that you are a human being, not a human doing.
Above all, love yourself no matter what. In the end may you come to discover that you which you seek has been right here waiting for you all along.
