The Spiritual Importance Of Self-Nurture
We live in a challenging world. As true as that may be, Spirit teaches us that there is much that can be done to rise above any challenge, to become empowered in the process, and thus to manifest a better future for ourselves. One of the keys to this is self-nurture.
Why should we nurture ourselves, and more importantly, how do we nurture ourselves?
Self-nurturing is often confused with self-indulgence. However, self-nurturing is not an act of selfishness or vanity. It is simply taking care of yourself, both spiritually and physically, to keep your mind, body, and soul strong and able to meet the challenges of everyday life.
As a result, you will be better equipped to meet the challenges of everyday life and to contribute more to society.
Here are some good ways to take better care of yourself.
Feed Your Senses
Make sure that what you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch each day is mostly positive, uplifting, and as nourishing as possible. True, this may not always be easy because we live in a noisy, troubled world. But it can be as simple as reading an uplifting book, listening to uplifting music of your choice, or watching a movie that you find particularly authentic and positive.
Self-care is so much more than a beauty regimen or an external thing you do. It has to start within your heart to know what you need to navigate your life. A pedicure doesn’t last, but meditating every day does ~ Carrie Anne Moss
Keep photos, artwork, and ornaments in your home and workplace that bring you joy. This can be as simple as a beautiful plant, a bouquet of flowers, a child’s drawing, or a collage of pictures of loved ones. Color is an important factor here; the brighter and more uplifting it is, the better you will feel.
Inhaling beautiful, uplifting aromas, such as essential oils of lavender, neroli, rose, or orange blossom, is a powerful way to nurture yourself. If you choose this approach, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Alternatively, it can be as simple as wearing your favorite perfume or aftershave, provided the scent uplifts and feeds your senses in an appropriate way-then it has done its job.
Experience physical touch. Get a massage. Hug your loved ones and friends, and pet your pets. Wear your favorite cotton T-shirt, silk scarf, or cashmere sweater. If it makes you feel good physically, it nourishes your mind and soul.
Healthy Lifestyle
Eat healthy foods and beverages that nourish your body and delight your taste buds. Get enough exercise, preferably outdoors in nature. Get enough sleep and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Spiritual Practice
It really does not matter what your religious or spiritual beliefs are, as long as you practice it regularly in some way. Having a spiritual routine, faith-based lifestyle, or daily metaphysical practice is absolutely key to self-nurturing.
If you really don’t have time for a daily spiritual practice, then at least practice a few minutes of mindful meditation. This is not only a brilliant way to get to know yourself, but it also helps to release any energy blockages and create a better and more positive energy flow within.
Community Service
It is true that we may not always feel like helping others when we are in a particularly stressful and challenging place ourselves. However, we cannot fully nourish ourselves without nourishing others. It can be as simple as buying a healthy meal for someone in need, donating to a local charity, or helping out in your community in a small way. It will lift your spirits and remind you that more often than not, there is always someone else out there who is even more challenged than you are.
