The Mystical Symbolism Of Feathers

I attended an angel reading workshop some years ago, during which our mentor said, “When you find a white feather in an unusual place, it’s a calling card from the Angels. Just know that your prayers have been heard and when spirit feels that the timing is right, your prayers will be answered”.

A client of Native American heritage recently explained to me how her ancestors used to make their headdresses with feathers. The reason for this is when you look at a feather there is a hollow shaft running up its center.

She says when the wearer of such a feather headdress prays, it is believed there is a direct connection to spirit, because the prayers travel up that shaft to the Divine. And similarly, blessings are sent down from the Divine via the feather’s shaft.

Feather symbolism can be found in many spiritual traditions. For example, it is an ancient Celtic belief that a feathered cloak enables one to visit other worlds with speed.

Many of my clients have the experience of finding feathers. These feathers are signs from spirit and sometimes appear in a place where one wouldn’t expect a bird could have possibly been! The color of the feathers we find is also believed to have a certain spiritual or metaphysical meaning.

Finding a feather is often a magical moment. It is amazing how the feather can come into your life, it’s presence and location seeming out of this world. Spirit finds a way to synchronistically align the feather with your whereabouts and then nudge you to take notice ~ Natalia Kuna

White

White feathers symbolize love and peace. A loved one on the other side can make their presence known with the appearance of a white feather, to reassure you that they are at peace and contented. White feathers are a symbol of hope and protection, and many people feel a certain strength emanating from a white feather.

Purple

A purple feather symbolizes universal consciousness, all things of a spiritual nature and your spiritual growth.

Blue

A blue feather is symbolic of communication, especially of a psychic or spiritual nature. It can represent peace and inspiration, as well as psychic awareness. If you keep making mistakes, a blue feather can be put in your path to make you listen to other people’s advice for a change!

Green

A green feather is said to be symbolic of prosperity, success, personal and inner growth, as well as good health. A green feather is a good omen and is associated with Mother Nature and the animal kingdom.

Yellow

A yellow feather can suggest that the sun is about to come out in your life. It brings cheerfulness and joy, and is also symbolic of mental alertness and gaining new knowledge.

Red

A red feather is symbolic of passion and strength and it represents great courage and fortune, as well as security.

Pink

A pink feather is symbolic of unconditional love and it can be a message that you are about to feel loved by someone unconditionally. Faith, inspiration and harmony are represented by the pink feather.

Orange

An orange feather symbolizes creativity at its strongest, new creative ideas which lead to great opportunities and success. It can also relate to physical love.

Brown

A brown feather symbolizes being grounded and stable. It represents companionship, respect, and can also represent feeling settled in one’s home life.

Grey

You may have received or found a grey feather when you were suffering emotionally or materially. It suggests that, although there isn’t an easy solution to your dilemma, a grey feather assures us that a little further down the line, there will be a smoother road ahead. You would be advised to ‘take the middle path’ right now.

Black

Black feathers symbolize the importance of releasing any past hurts or bitterness in order to move forward, because it is time for a new adventure. It can represent wisdom of rather a ‘mystical’ kind, as well as protection. A black feather can cross your path to tell you that you should be aware of the type of people you are mixing with.
