How To Deal With Ghosts In Your Home
Do you suspect your home may be haunted? If so, don’t panic! The majority of hauntings are generally harmless. However, it is nevertheless imperative that you be able to recognize when spirits are around you, and to know how to engage correctly with them at all times. If you suspect that you are dealing with something more ominous, then it may be advisable to find professional help from paranormal experts in your area. But in most cases there is usually nothing to fear. The following guidelines may useful to you when dealing with typical ghosts in your home
Spirit Spotting
Spirits are often experienced by humans as orbs, flashing lights, shadows, blurs or mists. Complete, full-bodied apparitions, as are often portrayed in the movies, tend to be more rare and less frequently encountered. Yet, this is what most people expect to see, which impairs their very awareness to recognize spiritual contact when it actually happens.
Interestingly, paranormal research suggests that ghosts tend to be more active during the night, rather than the daytime, possibly because there is less electronic disturbance being emitted from household appliances at this time. In fact, electricity is a crucial factor in tracking down ghosts, as a lot of professional paranormal investigators use Electromagnetic Field (EMF) meters to measure spirit activity.
When an electromagnetic current changes or moves, it creates an EMF, and as ghosts are understood to be a form of energy, this energy current interferes with the EMF fields that surround them whenever they move, thus allowing any detecting equipment to ascertain both the spirit’s presence and whereabouts. However, I do not have any ghost-detecting equipment in my home, and doubt that you have either. How then do us ordinary folk know when a spirit may be around? The following may help:
Pets – Animals are more sensitive to spirit activity than most humans. Your dog, cat or other pet may suddenly become jittery or jumpy for no apparent reason. For example, your pooch suddenly starts to howl at someone or something that you cannot see.
Temperature Changes – The temperature suddenly drops, even though it may be a hot summer’s day outside. You may find that this change is noticed only in particular rooms and the chill is apparent the very moment you walk through the door.
Missing Objects – You suddenly can’t find those small everyday items that you are so used to having at your disposal. While these may not be expensive, as you are used to using them regularly, their absence is particularly noticed.
Electricity – The electrical appliances in your home may suddenly start acting up for no apparent reason. The lights go off and on, the bulbs explode, your TV flickers, or the volume on your radio suddenly increases. Yes, some ghosts really do like to make their presence known!
Candles – The candle you lit for a romantic dinner or a relaxing bath suddenly burns blue. Should the flame of candles start to burn blue, or become extinguished suddenly, and there is no breeze about, it is a possible sign there may be a spirit around.
Phone Calls – Your phone keeps ringing, but only once every time. You answer, but there is no one. Could it be that someone from the Other Side is trying to get through?

Spirit Contact
So, now you have an idea how to detect the presence of a ghost. But what if you actually want to make contact with them? If so, please carefully consider the following steps.
Set The Scene
Set the time, day and scene in your mind. It is believed that evenings are the best times for communicating with ghosts, but consistency is also important. Therefore, if you choose to make contact every Thursday evening at 8.30 pm, for example, then spirit will adapt to this.
Ensure that the room you make contact in is peaceful and quiet with the lights turned down low. A vase of fresh flowers placed in the room, or a stick of burning incense can also help to create the correct atmosphere.
Create A Shield
Create an energy shield for your protection. This can be done by simply sitting quietly, in a relaxed position, and taking in some deep and regular breaths.
With each inhalation see, in your mind’s eye, the earth’s protective energies flowing throughout your body in the form of golden light. With each exhalation, visualize any remnants of stress and negativity exiting your body, like ashen puffs of smoke.
Gradually, as you continue with your deep breathing, you should imagine the whole of your body being filled with this golden light and it forming an egg-like shell around you, this being your shield for protection. You can supplement this with a protective prayer of affirmation of your choosing.
State Your Boundaries
Before making contact, please do not forget to set your boundaries and state whom you are open to communicating with. Don’t be afraid to say this out aloud, because spirit will hear you whether you speak externally or internally.
To start the conversation, you could begin by asking questions about the kind of life the spirit had led and whether they have any messages for you. Most of the time, they will reply via your intuition or even through vision, sound or sensation – whatever your strongest psychic sense may be.
Just for fun, you may wish to write the ghost a letter and leave it somewhere in your home where you feel the spirit is particularly present. Don’t forget to ask for a reply and be prepared for an intuitive, if not other form of surprising answer.

Clearing Negative Energies
It is so unlikely you will ever feel uncomfortable having a ghost in your house. However, should this happen, then please consider the following steps.
1. Open the windows and doors so that any negative energy can escape.
2. Light a smudging stick of sage and walk, clockwise, around each room, while clearly requesting that any unwanted spirits immediately vacate the premises.
3. Sprinkle some salt into each corner of every room, leaving it there for at least 48 hours. Then clean it up using a vacuum cleaner, and dispose of it.
4. Light some relaxing white candles to help disperse any remaining remnants of negative energy. Then settle down and engage in some relaxing activities, such as listening to calming music, meditating or reading, while the candles are still alight. This will bring an air of calm and settlement into your environment.
In conclusion, connecting with spirit should be fun and nothing to be feared, so do enjoy your ghostly encounters.
