Helping Each Other On Our Spiritual Journey
At some point in our lives we all cross paths with an individual who has a more profound effect on us than anybody else ever will. Sometimes these memorable encounters are due to something someone said at a critical phase in our lives, and their words then echo on in the years ahead. Or it may be a kindness someone shows us unexpectedly.
Such was the effect of a fascinating man I met more than 20 years ago. Paul is an esoteric counselor and I studied palmistry with him, as well as having past life regression under his supervision. The past lives revealed during our sessions had a big influence on me to this day. They are as crystal clear as when I was regressed by him over two decades ago.
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
I met Paul by chance, when a friend of mine booked psychic readings with him, for both of us. My session was a birthday present from her and it was a great choice, because she knew how I struggled in those days to find someone who could do an excellent reading for me.
When it was time for my reading, I entered his study and he looked at me empathetically and said, “You find it very hard being in a body, don’t you?” How right he was! The reading was very reassuring. He knew so much about me from my astrological chart, and even though it looked rather complicated at the time, it made so much sense when he described how my life path fitted into the detailed chart and the various influences at the time of my birth.
Paul confirmed that I was meant to feel things deeply in order to be able to do the work I was meant to do in this lifetime. He was also insistent that if I were to attempt to follow other vocations along the way, spirit would always guide me back to being an esoteric counselor like him!
So, along the way, I have invested some time in the ego’s world and its thought system of stress, anger, resentment, judgment and confusion, among other negative emotions. Basically, I know only too well how it feels to be out of alignment with love. I have fallen into the ego’s trap of judging myself as not wise enough or good enough, like so many of my customers do. I guess that having immersed myself in those negative emotions too, has enabled me to be part of the solution for others today, by identifying with their struggle.
I don’t want to live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I cant change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit ~ Charles de Lint
I certainly can identify with people who say that they sometimes feel like a tourist in a foreign land – totally lost. Many spiritual teachings stress how we have all volunteered to come to this world and help our fellow man in remembering home and our true spiritual essence, which is spirit.
When we are connected to the source of our being, we feel peaceful, compassionate and forgiving and, we radiate this out to others. They will not only feel this energy, but remember it as something they once knew, when they were connected to Source. When we are in this state of being-ness, people are drawn to us just to bask in our presence. They gain a sense of feeling safe.
We are all teachers and should never underestimate the effect we can have on others. It may only take a kind word, thought or a deed to have a profound effect on another. Many souls are stuck in a storm of their own making, but we can help to shelter them from the storm, and assist in leading them to the clarity that helps them find their route out of the storm.
