Opal – The Powerful Seeing Jewel
Opal is known as the ‘seeing jewel.’ Its name originates from the Latin word opalus. I was told this by the owner of a beautiful crystal store in South Africa. Most Opal he said can be as much as 65 million years old! The stone contains a high percentage of water, which creates a play of color through light, and a sparkly phenomena.
Opal’s energy represents both the higher emotional body and higher mental body. This jewel adds light to the aura and helps to bring buried emotions to the surface. When I bought my first Opal from an interesting lady at a psychic fayre, she told me that the name originates from the Sanskrit writings and means ‘precious stone.’ It is amongst the most popular of stones sold throughout the ages.
The lady in question was from the Far East and said that in her culture Opal is a holy stone that holds the spirit of truth within. She added that the Greeks believed it provided protection from illness and the power of prophesy. She told me that Opal carries the energy of the Moon and water, and that it would enhance my psychic awareness. She also warned of its use in any rituals, because of its powerful energy.
Both ‘seeing jewel’ and ‘precious stone’ describe this gem beautifully.
When doing in-person healing balances (as opposed to remote healings), I have often asked the client to hold an Opal. My type of healing balance delves deep into layers of tucked-away emotions and the Opal assists the healing by softening the impact of stress from the outside world, in order to help one release the trauma of old wounds.

Opal tends to magnify whatever emotional state is prevailing and mirror it back to the user. This is not by any means a form of punishment, but a means of bringing us awareness of steps we need to take in order to release any blockages which no longer serve us. We can then connect to the source of our being and see what our true life purpose and calling is. Used in meditation, Opal will help quiet your mind.
If you are unsure of yourself, or your ability to make a judgment, holding or wearing Opal can cause you stress by intensifying this feeling. If you tend to hold in your feelings, it may cause you to feel ill at ease, because the Opal prompts the expression of inner feelings. If you are open and assertive, this lovely stone will bring further confidence and joy. Also, observe your Opal if you are ill. The color of the stone tends to change. Mine certainly does.

There are four types of Opal:
Ordinary Opal – can be made up of many colors and stripes and doesn’t shine. It increases the ability to make money and encourages good working relationships.
Blue Opal – tends to be transparent and beautiful. Calming. It encourages clear and positive communications.
Cat’s Eye Opal – Light in color. It rarely shines. Provides creative and positive vision for business.
Black Opal – Made up of very strong shades of blue, red or green on a dark background. Encourages self-love and acceptance. Calming and balancing, mentally and physically.
