Ways To Practice Aura Reading
I am often asked if I can see auras. Yes, but in all honestly I see them only with deliberate focus and, in using techniques I learned in psychic development. I am more of a clairsentient when it comes to perceiving someone’s Aura. I ‘feel.’
The aura is an expression of a person, animal or any living being’s emotions and energies – physical, etheric, astral, mental and spiritual. It’s a subtle emanation surrounding the body, almost like a light cloud or luminous mist. The aura reveals one’s character, state of health, as well as one’s emotional nature and stage of spiritual development.
Bright primary aura colors are associated with good health, i.e. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, whilst colors which have become dark or muddy in appearance are generally associated with disease or energy imbalances. When a healer examines the quality of the colors in the aura, he or she will often make an informed diagnosis. If a healer is really skilled, they can remove any offensive energy and bring one’s auric field into a healthy state of equilibrium.
The basic talent allowing us to see an aura is in all of us. In fact, we see auras all the time but are just not consciously aware of the fact. It is only when we turn off the rational, cognitive part of our brain that we can let the intuitive part ‘see’ the human energy field ~ Mark Smith
A healer can view their patient’s aura by feeling the aura through the palms of their hands, by seeing the aura clairvoyantly via their developed auric vision. The aura can be most easily observed around the hands, feet and head. Looking at the aura around our hands is the most accessible.
Reading The Hand Aura
To practice reading the aura around the hands, you will need a black piece of cardboard about 20 inches (50cm) wide by 24 inches (60 cm) long.
Sit upright and take deep breaths from your abdomen for ten minutes or longer. This helps slow down your brain wave frequency. Next, meditate for ten minutes using a technique that you are comfortable with.
Once you feel sure that your body is completely relaxed, take your mental attention to the back of your heart chakra as if you were breathing from there. You should actually feel your heart chakra become active!
Hold your hands about 4 inches (10cm) above the cardboard in a horizontal position, palms up, with your fingers pointing towards each other, almost touching. Look at your hands and then begin looking past your hands, through your fingers. Your eyes will un-focus.
Initially, the aura may appear feint and look like steam which is evaporating. Continue to go deeper into relaxation, the brightness of the aura will grow stronger, and those colors will emerge. Notice the lines of force connect your corresponding fingers.
Once you have mastered the basics, you can then try this on friends and family.

Reading The Head Aura
One of the lessons in a psychic development class I attended in Johannesburg, South Africa, involved a group of six of us taking turns in reading one another’s aura around the head.
We gathered in a darkened room and applied a similar technique to the above (used for reading the hands), in order to bring ourselves to the appropriate state of relaxation and brain wave frequency. I also recall feeling that my heart chakra was active, as our mental attention was taken to focusing on breathing from that chakra (same as the sequence for reading the aura around the hands).
Each subject in turn sat with their back to a white wall, as the other five participants made notes of what they picked up in the sitter’s aura. We each then shared our impressions of the colors we were able to see, as we allowed our peripheral vision to take over. It was a lot of fun, but it takes time to develop, unless you just happen to see auras naturally!
I also recall a particular gathering one late summer evening with a small psychic development group I was part of in England. On that particular occasion, we met in a park, and all sat with our backs up against a tree. The lady who led the meditation told us to simply observe everything around us, without blinking. She explained how we could begin with this technique by staying in stillness from just a few minutes to up to eight hours!
If we can sit out in nature without blinking, we will see things – like a light around trees. We will even be able to perceive the energy of various animals and plants.
