The Fundamentals Of Psychic Development
I just finished teaching an intensive psychic development course called Discovering Your Intuitive and Mediumistic Abilities. All the material that was discussed, and the questions from my students, are still fresh in my mind. So, I felt it is a good time to write about it today.
Firstly, it has been my experience that there isn’t just one kind of person interested in psychic subject matter. My students over the years have included professionals, trades people, retired seniors, students, and stay-at-home moms. I have had a heart surgeon, a nurse, restaurant servers, hairstylists and even a workman who does dry walling, as students in my classes.
It is my belief that everyone is psychic and can learn to read energy and communicate with spirit in some way. Some of my students will go on to become professional psychics, mediums, intuitives, or energy workers. Others take the class merely for their own spiritual growth or personal development. About 90% of my students are empaths, or care-givers who work with the public in some way.
The first question I always ask the students is, why are you taking this course and what do you expect to get from our time together? The first answer is usually: to help other people. My reply, “What about your own body, mind and spirit?”
I trust in the highest consciousness of all. I call forth the highest consciousness within me ~ Matt Kahn
It is very hard to truly help others while neglecting your mental, physical, and spiritual body. If a student would ever reply with something like, “I want the power,” my reply would be to tell them they are in the wrong class. This kind of work in my opinion is detrimental when anyone would pursue it for selfish reasons, or as a means to gain an advantage over others.
One of the reasons I started to teach, was because people kept asking for help to understand what was going on with them. First and foremost, they often want to know how to turn the communication on and off. People often ask me how I can stand to have spirit wanting to communicate with me all the time? We all need to sleep and take time to rejuvenate. We cannot be on call 24/7. There are ways to gain control over this.
For students in my classes the most important requirement for me is for them to be willing to work with their heart. They must learn how to open the energy of healing the heart. Sounds like it would be easy, but not for everyone. To allow yourself to connect with another, without judgment or wanting to put your own two cents in, can be very difficult. If you cannot accomplish this, it may not be the right time in your life to learn this work. It’s often all in the timing.
The next exercise we usually do is to make contract with spirit. Students often want to know what’s the difference between a psychic and a medium. Simply stated, psychics read energy, mediums talk to dead people. Every medium is psychic, but not all psychics want to be mediums. The spiritual or metaphysical work you choose to do is based on an agreement between you and spirit. This ‘contract’ is an agreement with spirit, stating how you can and will work together. Most important in this agreement is always the dictum of do no harm!
When I accepted my inner power, responsibility became a privilege. I’m truly grateful to have the opportunity to help so many people each day, even while I’m sleeping ~ Steve Pavlina
We can’t make spirit do anything, but spirit also can’t make us do anything against our will. My own personal contract with spirit is, for example, that predictions of death will not be a part of my work. Neither do I offer predictions of predestined events my clients can’t do anything about. My personal belief is most of our life experiences are due to our free will, but some things as predestined. We agree to experience these events of destiny before we come to this earth life.
I always remind students that our spirit contract can be renegotiated. I like to put things on paper, but a mental agreement works just as well. Rules on integrity, etiquette and boundaries should be included.
My goal as a teacher is to have each student by themselves find out how things work for them, as long as they always work towards what is the highest and best information to relay to the client. It’s all about the client. If you ever encounter a psychic or medium who claims they have never been wrong… I would run the other way. Everyone can be wrong. One of the biggest lessons all readers of any kind must remember is people hear a message the way they wish to hear it… and not what is necessarily said. It’s all our own perception.
I also believe the work we do is for healing and guidance – it’s up to the client what they choose to do with it.
