The Day The Angels Saved My Life
I know now that my angels kept me from going to work that day for a reason. I have also learned since that I still had work to do that was important enough to keep me safe from injury or worse.
I will never forget the day of the highway accident. It was September 3, 1999, and I had asked to be excused from work, which I never did. I was an office manager at a tool shop, working under a very arrogant accountant who had control issues with the employees.
I had worked there for several years without ever asking for extra time off, but he said no. He didn’t think I should have the day off because it was already a long weekend for us in Canada. The Labor Day holiday would have given me a four-day weekend instead of a three-day weekend.
He then threatened that I would lose my job if I took the day off because he didn’t approve of it and had no intention of changing his mind. But my gut was telling me very strongly that I simply could not go to work that day, I had to take it off. I didn’t know why at the time, I just knew I had to stay home.
So I did the only thing I could think of since my job security was in jeopardy – I went over his head to the owner and got the day off anyway! I later thanked the angels that I did that.
The accident happened about the same time I usually drive through the area on my way to work. I worked in Windsor, Ontario and lived in Valetta, which is almost an hour away. Every day I would get on the Queensline exit, east of Tilbury, and take the 401 to Oldcastle, where the 401 meets the highway. I have to admit I didn’t always drive the speed limit back then. I shudder to think what would have happened to me if I had driven my usual route to work that day!
Miracles happen every day. Not just in remote country villages or at holy sites halfway across the globe, but here, in our own lives ~ Deepak Chopra
I remember seeing the news of the massive highway accident on morning television, cut into whatever program was airing as a special report at the time. At first I thought it was just another tragic accident somewhere in the country due to someone’s reckless driving, but then I noticed a local logo on one of the trucks. I then realized that the scene of this accident was in my area, and after turning up the volume and paying closer attention, I realized that it had happened in my daily travel zone!
It became very real at that moment and my heart stopped for a moment. Apparently a wall of fog just appeared out of nowhere on highway 401. No one could see where they were going, and because that area is heavily traveled by tractor trailers as well as passenger vehicles, it became a total nightmare in a matter of seconds.
My father, brother and nephew had also been driving east on the 401 earlier in the day for a baseball tournament my nephew was playing in. My father heard about the accident on the radio and immediately called my work to check on me.
Whoever answered the phone just said. “No, she’s not here…” They didn’t tell him that I had taken the day off. So, of course my dad panicked. He finally called the house and when he heard my voice he said, “Thank God you’re home!”
I will never forget the shock of seeing the carnage, the feeling of relief, and also the grief for the eight people who lost their lives-especially the young woman who screamed for help as her car burned. No one could get her out as she was trapped between and under two tractor trailers. I felt the pain and trauma of the rescue workers and volunteers who were trying so hard to help.
Some of the most fascinating and uplifting stories of the unexplained are those that people perceive as being miraculous in nature…They almost always seem to happen when they are needed most ~ Stephen Wagner
This was a wake-up call that told me in no uncertain terms that when my gut, my intuition, speaks to me, I should always listen. My guides and guardian angels had been clear about not going in to work that day, and they were working for my highest good.
This was one of many times that I know the angels kept me out of harm’s way on the road. It was also not the first time I was saved from other calamities and potential disasters. My dad always said it was my mom watching over me from heaven. Whether it was mom, the angels, or God, I know that something or someone was watching over me.
So if you ask, why don’t my guides or the angels protect me from bad things that happen? Know that they do. It is just a matter of listening to your inner guidance or ignoring it and going with your own ego thoughts and plans instead. The next time spirit speaks to you, acknowledge the intuitive knowing deep within.
Do not question your gut, just listen and act. The angels may be trying to save your life.
