Life After Life (Part 5 of 7) – Mediumship
Mediumship is the term used for spirit communication and is distinctly related to connecting to the spiritual essence of loved ones that have passed on. Throughout history, this label has been relegated to specific individuals called mediums, and the primary source of messages come through channeling or other experiences. However, the practice of mediumship can also be an individual or private practice.
Spirit is the transcendent force that unites all things, and it is this interconnected nature that allows us to connect with God, angels, spirit guides, and even loved ones that have transitioned into the realm beyond. It is through this innate connection that authentic psychic mediums gather information and channel it for their clients. However, it is important to understand that every human being on this planet has the capability to do this on their own as well.
We are all connected to spirit, in our physical manifestation and our soul ~ Linda Masanimptewa
It is my conviction that everyone is psychic. Many are challenged by this viewpoint, but it is important to point out that just because we all have the propensity to be psychic that doesn’t mean that all individuals have to do psychic or mediumship readings. My best clients are individuals who listen to and pay attention to their own intuition, and in this way the information that is provided during a session is a profound confirmation that they are on the right track.
The same is true with mediumship, often individuals will be hearing from their loved ones who have passed away, and then in a session, they will find confirmation that their senses are actually very active.
So, the question then is, “How can I connect to my loved ones?” Here are some excellent strategies in developing a personal mediumship practice and help you gain confidence in your own spiritual connection:
Believing
It is understandable to be doubtful, however if skepticism is keeping you from even attempting a practice it is not a useful trait. I have encountered many skeptics in my career, and the main block that they have is not their skepticism. The primary block to spiritual experience is that they do not attempt any sort of spiritual practice. Spiritual communication if often very subjective when viewing it from the outside looking in, but when someone is engaged in seeking, their experiences are actually quite solid.
I have been communicating with spirit for over 15 years now, and have been developing my spiritual practice for that long also. In that time I have seen remarkable miracles, healings, visits to heaven, and a plethora of experiences that have strengthened my faith. However, if an individual attempts to use my personal experiences as their method of belief, they will be greatly disappointed.
We can certainly be inspired by another person’s story, but it is folly to think that their story can substitute for our personal experience. I don’t recommend you believe something simply because another person says it is so; rather my recommendation with belief is that you actually believe it may be possible yourself.
Spiritual Practice
Once you are able to belief that it might be possible, start practicing. Participate in activities such as prayer, meditation, and devotional exercises. I recommend trying more than one form of spiritual practice, and find out what works best for you.
These days we have a buffet of spiritual practices that has been laid before us, and my recommendation is to start with the one that draws you most and see where that takes you. Be flexible, because what worked for you yesterday may not work for you today. The nature of evolution is diversity.
Love
I am convinced that God is Love. Love is the creative force of the Universe, and is the Source energy from which we came. In our human experience, we live in a universe of polarities, and the polar opposite to this creative force is fear. This is a destructive force, but it exists only within the polarity system that we currently reside. We can see daily how destructive this force can be on our planet, because it is the root of things like war and greed.
I don’t want to focus too much on this dynamic in this essay, since the next blog in this series deals specifically with the love dynamic. However, when talking about spiritual practice it is important to understand that the more we can engage with love on this side, the more we are in vibrational alignment with the other side. Love is the “easy access” point to Spirit, because God is love. This is true whether you are talking about angelic communication or mediumship.
Journaling
Keeping a record is a crucial element, because it is easy for the human mind to be distracted from spirit communication. During your practices be sure to write things down. This is by far the most important practice when you are learning to hear from spirit through mediumship principles. This will create a log of your experiences.
Testing
I have learned to trust spirit communication and do my best to follow any advice that comes through channeling. That being said, I am not perfect, but I recommend that you do this as well. Take the messages you are receiving and ‘try them on.’ Do this especially if you are getting messages from your loved ones that do not have a directive nature.
I do recommend that you ask for confirmation when engaging in spirit, but I will give one caveat for them. Confirmations are good, but remember too that you don’t need to hear the same thing a 100 times for it to be true. When something is confirmed be grateful for it and move on.
The material world is simply an expression of the mind; that’s what so many fail to see. We’re so dependent on what is before us that we discount our intuition ~ Megan Chance
Spirit communication is a relational dialogue. Let’s say you and I were having a conversation and you said something that I didn’t quite hear and I asked you to repeat yourself. Then, despite the fact that I clearly heard you the first two times, I keep asking you over and over again what you said. The reality is that when you are communicating with spirit there is infinite patience and unconditional love. Spirit does not have an ego that will get frustrated with you, but I have found that people who are constantly seeking confirmation spend little time listening or creating dialogue. This type of practice can actually hinder your evolutionary growth.
These are just a few strategies you can take to connect with individuals who have transitioned, and I always recommend that you find what works best for you. It is important to understand that if something stops working for you personally it does not mean that the practice itself was invalid. It means that you are growing and moving beyond it. That same practice may be working wonders for other individuals using that strategy. In your spiritual practice be flexible and allow yourself to move from one loving experience to the next.
