Do you sometimes feel disconnected? Is the world you live in too much to handle some days? Do you have a billion things running through your mind? Do you have this voice that is telling you that you’re not smart enough, or attractive enough, or successful enough? Do you constantly compare yourself to others?
You are not alone.
Social media has certainly done a great job of not only connecting us with friends and family we haven’t seen for years, since the high school prom, college graduation or a grandparent’s funeral. But, it also has done a fine job of making us feel utterly Dis-connected. And it can sabotage our self-realization.
Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else ~ Judy Garland
When we look at what other people are doing, we can’t help but look at our own lives and maybe start thinking we aren’t aren’t doing as well, and so on. This is very dangerous.
Are you often on the social media looking at what others are doing? Do you feel you have to look or dress a certain way? Are you concerned how people view, or think of you? If so, I recommend you make the following changes:
1. Spend less time on social media and get back to real life. Start focusing on your own, unique life. I, frankly, don’t have the time of day to read what peoples latest and greatest status updates are on their lives, because I’m too busy living my own life! Don’t get wrapped up in other people’s drama and don’t try to keep up with the Joneses.
2. Stop worrying about how other people view you. If you are happy with how you feel and look, that is good enough. Period. One of my favorite quotes is from Madonna: “Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another.” Don’t allow how others think of you to influence your happiness. Life is too short for that.
The fact is that those who do not see themselves but who see others, who fail to grasp of themselves but who grasp others, take possession of what others have but fail to possess themselves ~ Chuang Tzu
3. Stop listening to other people’s views and advice on what you ought to be doing. It is merely their opinion, not necessarily the truth. Just listen to your own inner voice and intuition. Use your own divine “Global Positioning System (GPS)” for where you need to be and what you need to be doing. You will find that you will feel so much more connected and you will embrace your life with a positive and optimistic perspective.
4. Focus on your own goals, desires and wishes. Consider what you’re doing or what you should be doing, and then do that. Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Mind your own business. You need to stay focused and always know what is worth keeping in your mental toolbox and what would be worth pitching. Ask your Higher Self for guidance. Spend your time thinking and doing things that are helping you be happy, healthy and in harmony with your true authentic self.
Get yourself connected by reconnecting with yourself.
