Spring Forward Energy Shift
Many of us know the feeling of disorientation we get when Daylight Savings Time (DST) kicks back in… including perhaps the craving for an extra cup of coffee! But did you know that our physical and spiritual energies are undergoing a dramatic shift at this time also?
The vernal equinox at the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere exposes us to more sunlight, after the short days of winter. The body and mind now send signals for new growth. More cellular activity takes place in spring than any other season. Literally, we are become new versions of ourselves at this time, as our cells are replaced.
It’s the perfect time to begin new routines or rid ourselves of practices which are no longer beneficial. Cleaning out closets and attics in our homes can be likened to conducting a spiritual ‘spring cleaning.’
On the equinox, the hours of light and darkness are evenly balanced. This only happens twice a year. It’s a reminder from the Universe that both sides need to be in harmony, and neither can exist without the other. Our personal energies are more balanced than ever at this time, which makes it a perfect time for meditation, deep psychic exploration, and shamanic journeys.

Astrologically, the sun moves from Pisces (the final sign of the Zodiac) into Aries (the first) at this time, so it is also the symbolic beginning of a new year. If you haven’t taken a look at your astrological chart and the yearly calendar of astrological events for some time, it’s the perfect opportunity to do so.
Most significantly of all, physical energy shifts from dormancy (winter) to dynamic growth (spring), in ourselves as well as the natural world. In winter the focus lies on reflection, introspection, looking within. Spring asks us to externalize, to get outside, share the experience.
Many people have a chronic deficiency of vitamin D, from lack of exposure to sunlight. An hour outside each day, such as a brisk walk or playtime with children or pets, can help alleviate this after a long, cold winter. If our smallest components, our cells, are not healthy, then neither can we be wholly healthy physically or spiritually.
Start this spring season by expressing what you want your new growth to look like. Do you want to grow spiritually? Develop healthier habits? Manifest energies toward a goal such as a new job? If you can picture it, you can make it happen.

Spring also shows us that new growth comes from the most unlikely sources: a small colorless bulb becomes a bright tulip; a tiny acorn grows into an oak seedling. Think of each one of your goals as the potential for new growth, and the universe will help nurture them.
Maybe the part of spring’s energies that we most overlook is the fact that all new growth and energy comes from what we thought was a barren, lifeless earth. If you’re feeling listless and directionless, keep in mind that you still possess the ability to change your energies and grow spiritually no matter what.
