Life After Life (Part 7 of 7) – Continued Creation
It has been my experience that love is often the most universal message that people who have touched the other side bring back to us. That being said, even though love is the most important quality that we can express as human beings, there is also good reason to ally with love and forgiveness in our lives.
While we are on this planet our actions and contributions really do matter. As souls we are evolving and growing, and through this evolutionary process taking place on the soul level the planet too is in a process of evolution. Evolution is the creative dynamic that love creates.
In today’s final blog in this series I rely a bit on the esoteric traditions of spirituality that came before us, especially that of the Judeo-Christian and Jewish traditions. As I do so, I want to be clear that there are many traditions that express and say these same things in different ways. My personal background is in Christianity, and most of my formal teaching related to religion and spirituality stem from this tradition. This is why my blogs contain some archaic Christian language as reference points for spiritual understanding.
Take away love and our earth is a tomb ~ Robert Browning
The ‘beyond’ for the most part reveals that we are certainly headed somewhere, but taking a linear perspective to this concept is missing the mark, and diminishes the purpose of the belief in an afterlife. The ideal purpose in conceptualizing an afterlife is to awaken us to that which is true and important for us now.
To know and understand that we are limitless beings that will remain after we shed our physical bodies only begs the question of, “Why are we here now?” It is my personal conviction that we are here now to evolve and grow into a greater understanding of love, and allow love to be the motivating characteristic of our life.
In the human world we are experiencing duality. We have up and down; back and forth; male and female; me and you; us and them; and so on. We experience life through the filter of ‘the other.’ This being said, I have a mixed viewpoint when it comes to duality, which is that I do not believe that it exists in a transcendent form. My personal experiences have led me to believe that there is only one Source, and all things exist in that single Source. So, from a transcendent perspective all expressions of duality are in essence reconciled into One ultimate reality, and in that ultimate reality we are evolving and growing back into that singular reality.
This is why in the Biblical tradition it says that all things have been reconciled in Heaven, and on Earth, and under the earth into a singular form, which is the Christ. There are also symbolic phrases in the Bible that extinguish this idea of duality. It is written that in the One there is no longer male and female. This doesn’t mean that there is a ‘spiritual sex change,’ but rather the idea of separateness fades away.
We are all born for love. It is the principle of existence, and its only end ~ Benjamin Disraeli
A Course in Miracles states that only love is real, and our discussion of the evidence of a love provoking Source and afterlife we can see that love is the most important quality we can express. This is the creative power of the Universe. The Source from which we originated, and the place that we will eventually return. While we are on this planet our evolutionary purpose is to align ourselves to the best of our ability to this loving force, and by doing so we are aligning with the creative force of the Universe.
This is why many spiritual teachers focus so much on the dynamic of love, and why Jesus said things like, “Love God (the Source) with all of your heart, soul, strength, and mind. And love your neighbor as yourself.” This is not a religious axiom, but a fundamental spiritual truth that allows us to become a co-creator in this effort of love on planet earth.
