Our Pets Are Telepathically Connected To Us
I’m in the midst of a major move with my two dogs – a process that has made me even more aware of how much our pets are telepathically connected to us. It also reminded me of the importance of always being aware of the energy I project.
The move took months of planning, involving the sale of my house and more complex logistics for my pets’ travel arrangements than I’ve ever encountered before. I’m now especially aware of my need to consciously project positive, happy thoughts to make it less traumatic and stressful for them.
My six-year-old Labrador mix, Jake, has already shown clear signs of picking up on the new atmosphere around the house. For example, before visitors arrive, he is now more aware of their approach. Yesterday, for example, when a realtor and photographer were scheduled to visit, Jake sat at the glass door, watching intently and whimpering for more than ten minutes before their arrival.
I have made a similar observation with my neighbor in the past. I always know when he’s coming over because Jake sits at the door and waits for several minutes before he arrives. As a former dog groomer, my neighbor is never surprised by this because he also believes in mental communication with animals.
Rupert Sheldrake, a prominent biologist and consciousness researcher, has devoted considerable attention to animal telepathy, focusing in particular on the psychic ability of dogs to anticipate their owners’ return home. His groundbreaking research, documented in his book Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home, includes numerous reports of dogs waiting at doors or windows before their human companions even begin their journey home.
Sheldrake’s studies involve carefully designed experiments that rule out conventional explanations, such as dogs responding to routine schedules or familiar car sounds. In one well-known study, he worked with pet owners to observe their dogs’ behavior when the owners returned home at unexpected times. The dogs moved to the door or window in anticipation, even though their owners had irregular schedules, making it unlikely that the pets were simply responding to habit or environmental cues.
Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem ~ A.A. Milne
Sheldrake suggests that this phenomenon could be explained by “morphic resonance,” his hypothesis that living organisms share a field of consciousness that allows for non-local communication. According to this idea, animals tap into a shared energy field that transcends physical boundaries, allowing them to know when their owners are on their way home.
Sheldrake’s work resonates deeply with pet owners worldwide, many of whom have witnessed similar behaviors in their own animals, and it forces us to consider whether all sentient beings, including animals, possess a form of telepathy and networked consciousness that challenges our understanding of the mind.
I also know from experience that our pets respond to our thoughts, feelings, and energy, not to the intentions of others. It is a powerful lesson in managing your mental focus when you need your animals to stay calm and happy in the midst of logistical chaos.
Spirit certainly had a hand in reminding me of this phenomenon at this time. My dogs and I are about to spend a week apart, and I’m making a conscious effort to send them thoughts of adventure, fun, and safety to ensure that they feel positive emotions from me during our time apart.
In addition, a trusted psychic colleague recently pointed out a “guilt energy” surrounding my relocation plans – a reminder that I am indeed feeling guilty about uprooting my pets from their familiar home.
As I prepare for the move, I’m even more aware of the importance of maintaining a calm, reassuring environment for my pets. A pet transporter I worked with over a decade ago taught me the value of normalizing the travel experience for animals. By bringing my pets’ travel crates into the house well in advance of our move, the transporter advised, “Just act as if every day before the trip is a normal day. Her advice had a profound effect: instead of projecting stress or guilt, I approached each day calmly, which helped my pets arrive at our new destination relaxed and comfortable.
Telepathic communication with animals is something we can all develop. Animals send thoughts, feelings, and mental images to each other just as we do, so it’s important to be aware of what we are mentally projecting. For example, if a pet is lost, instead of focusing on fearful thoughts of them being gone, we can visualize them finding their way home by projecting a positive mental image of their safe return.
The animal world shows us the potentials we can unfold. But to learn from them, we must first learn to speak with them ~ Ted Andrews
Here’s an easy way to practice connect telepathically with your pet:
Find a quiet place: Sit with your pet in a quiet place. Begin by quietly asking if they’re open to talking. Listen carefully for an answer, which may come as a feeling. If you sense a “yes,” proceed; if not, try again later.
Make a heart connection: Imagine sending a beam of green healing light from your heart to theirs. This creates an energetic foundation for communication.
Ask for a sign: Ask your pet for a sign that it’s tuned in to you. This could be a direct look, a blink, or a slight movement such as a paw lift.
Ask a question: When you are ready, ask a simple question, such as “What is your favorite food? Notice the first images, feelings, or thoughts that come up and write them down – they may make more sense upon reflection.
Close with appreciation: Always thank your pet for his or her time. Building trust is essential, so avoid making promises you can’t keep; breaking promises can disrupt their confidence in the process. While animals are naturally intuitive communicators, talking to a human may be unfamiliar, so patience is essential.
Because animals respond to mental imagery, it’s also important to avoid focusing on past trauma or suspected neglect, as this can trigger distressing emotions for them. The more vivid your imagination, the stronger your ability to communicate with animals.
