The Day My Angels Saved My Life

I will never forget the day of that highway accident. It was September 3, 1999 and I had asked for that day off work, which is something I never did. I was an Office Manager at a tool shop, and worked under a very arrogant accountant whom, I’m sure, had control issues when it came to his staff.

He didn’t feel I should have the day off, as it was already a long weekend for us in Canada. The Labor Day holiday would have afforded me a four day weekend, instead of a three day weekend. I had been working there for several years, however he still said no. He had threatened that I would lose my job if I took that day off, as he didn’t approve it and had no intention of changing his mind.

Miracles happen every day. Not just in remote country villages or at holy sites halfway across the globe, but here, in our own lives ~ Deepak Chopra

My gut was telling me so strongly that I just could not go to work that day, I had to book it off. I didn’t know why at the time, I just knew I had to be home. So, I did the only thing I could think of, since my job security had been threatened – I went over his head to the owner and got the day off anyway.

When the accident happened, it would have been at approximately the same time I would have been traveling through the area. was working in Windsor, Ontario and living in Valetta, which is almost an hour away. Every day, I would jump on to the road at the Queensline Exit, East of Tilbury, and travel along the 401 to Oldcastle, where 401 meets the highway. I have to admit that I didn’t always drive the speed limit back then. I shudder to imagine what might have happened to me had I travelled my usual route to work that day.

I remember seeing the news coverage of the massive highway accident on morning television, as it cut into whatever program was being broadcast at that time as  a special report. At first I thought it was just another accident somewhere in the United States, but then something caught my eye on one of the trucks. I then realized that this accident was in Canada and after turning up the volume, and paying closer attention, I realized it had happened in my daily travel zone!

It became very real at that moment, and my heart stopped for a moment.  Apparently a fog wall just appeared out of nowhere. No one could see and because that area is heavily traveled by tractor trailers, as well as passenger vehicles, it became a total nightmare in a matter of seconds.

We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery ~ H. G. Wells

My father, brother and nephew had driven east on 401 earlier that day for a baseball tournament my nephew was to play in. My father heard about the accident on the radio and called my work. Whoever answered the phone simply said. “No, she’s not here…”  She didn’t say I took the day off. So, of course, my dad was in a panic. He finally called the house and when he heard my voice, said, “Thank God you’re home!”

I will never forget the shock of seeing the carnage, the feeling of relief, and also of grief for those eight souls whom had lost their lives – especially the young girl that was screaming for help as her vehicle burnt. No one could get her out as it was trapped between, and under two tractor trailers. I felt the pain and trauma of the rescue workers and volunteers that were trying to help so fervently.

This was a wakeup call for me and told me unequivocally that when my gut, my intuition spoke to me, I was always to listen.  My guides were clear leading up to that day, and they were working for my Highest good.

This was one of many times that I know my angels prevented me from being in harm’s way on the road. This was also not the first time that I was saved from crossing over. My dad always said it was my mom looking after me from Heaven. Me, I believe it was a Higher Power. Whether it was mom, or my angels, or God, I know that there was something, or someone watching out for me.

So, when you ask, why do my angels not protect me from bad things that happen? They do. It is just a matter of are you listening to your intuition, or are you ignoring it and going with your thoughts instead? The next time your guides speak to you, recognize the knowing deep down inside. Do not question it, just listen and act accordingly. The angels could be saving your life.
