Reflections On Time…And The Timeless
During my morning walk with the dogs, I found myself nostalgically reflecting on a time in my life when “there was a place for everything, and everything in its place.”
As comforting as that kind of order once felt, I’ve shifted considerably in how I relate to time constraints in recent years.
Over the years, I’ve gathered a menagerie of many rescue dogs and cats who’ve taught me to prioritize what truly needs my attention and focus, and to stop “sweating the small stuff.”
A neighbor also recently reminded me, “Hay tiempo para todo.” There is time for everything.
The general approach to life in the Spanish town where I live is (sometimes annoyingly so!) very easygoing, with a shared belief that what doesn’t get done today will simply get done tomorrow.
You often hear the locals say, “Mañana,” with a smile, which seldom means “tomorrow.” It means, “Tomorrow is another day, so don’t stress, don’t rush, it’ll all get sorted in time.”
I’ve reflected on this often, and the quality of life enjoyed by most Spaniards is a testament to the fact that perhaps they’re doing something right? It is especially evident in family life still being a priority for people living here.
In our little town of around 8,000 souls, people still pause to smile and greet one another. I’m lucky to be able to converse with the locals in their own language, but I’ve also seen how warmly they respond to foreigners, especially those who are still finding their way with Spanish. There’s no judgment, just appreciation for the effort.
The highest goal of spiritual living is not to amass a wealth of information, but to face sacred moments. Spiritual life begins to decay when we fail to sense the grandeur of what is eternal in time ~ Abraham Heschel
So, whenever something on my to-do list gets pushed to tomorrow, I remind myself of the locals saying, “Mañana,” and also of the words of Dr. Wayne Dyer, the late spiritual teacher and best-selling author: “You will never get everything done!”
Years ago, in a spiritual group I was part of, we spent a session discussing the idea of “stretching time.” It sounded encouraging, even magical, though I never quite grasped it. Maybe stretching time simply means slowing down? Being fully present and unrushed? Interestingly, those are often the moments when we get the most done. In contrast, when we’re anxious and unfocused, we can end up spinning our wheels, disconnected from the moment.
Some spiritual teachers, mystics, and channelers increasingly suggest that time is “speeding up.” They don’t mean that clocks are spinning faster. They mean that time seems to be moving faster. Events, revelations, and personal growth appear to be happening more rapidly. Many of my clients and friends also say that time seems to go by faster than it used to, and that they experience synchronicities and sudden bursts of insight more often.
According to some beliefs, this acceleration is due to changes in how the global consciousness is shifting. As more light, awareness, and evolution enters our world, the speed of change increases. In other words, time is more flexible, responsive, and complex than our linear, clock-based view allows.
What I do know from my work is that the spririt realm doesn’t experience time the same way we do. So, what seems like “speeding up” in the physical world may be partly because of the interaction between our everyday reality and timeless realms
We live in a culture in which the clock has become not only a tool of social coordination, but of domination. It can be seen as the principal religious symbol of the secular age ~ Jim Forest
This doesn’t mean we’re victims of a runaway clock, but rather that time is elastic. It reminds us to stay focused on the present and be kind to ourselves, even when life feels chaotic. And we must make more time for joy…not after all our tasks are done, but regardless of whether they’re done. Because, as Dr. Dyer reminded us: “You will never get everything done.”
As a psychic practitioner, I am often asked how long a situation will take to unfold. It’s a fair and common question, and I always do my best to offer accurate guidance. Sometimes, events come to pass in perfect alignment with divine timing. Other times, predictions may vary slightly. From what I’ve learned spiritually, outcomes tend to manifest in alignment with our highest good and in perfect timing.
Next time you feel stressed out or in a hurry, remind yourself that in the spirit realm, there are no clocks or watches. Time, as we measure it, simply doesn’t exist there.
