How To Use Crystals In Your Life
Stones and crystals have been sought after throughout human history, especially for the making of jewelry, amulets and ornaments. Many cultures also used them for healing purposes. The Egyptians, Sumerians, and Mayans are especially known for using crystals and stones in their healing rituals. Today these ancient traditions are regarded as pseudoscience.
Interestingly, the crystal structure is the basis of one of the biggest technological advances in the last 50 years. That technological advance is the microchip.
Some scientists attribute the healing potential of crystals to the placebo effect. Yet, despite the mainstream notion that there cannot be any scientific basis to the healing effect of crystals, the metaphysical community remains obsessed with the use of crystals and stones for healing and spiritual purposes.
The metaphysical use of crystals and stones has become a multi-billion dollar industry, and it is not appearing to slow down. Many are drawn to the touch, to the color, and to their properties. Rose quartz heals the heart. Amethyst calms. Citrine improves finances. Black tourmaline releases negative emotions and protects.
In my experience crystals really do have the ability to heal. They uplift people. They connect with us. Crystals heal and transform the environment.
Even though these ancient cultures understood the incredible healing properties of crystals and gemstones, our modern culture has, for the most part, forgotten about these early healing techniques ~ Mindvalley Academy
So, how does one begin to introduce crystals into your daily life? I recommend looking initially for a specific stone to create or attract a specific change in your life, or to combat unwanted changes. You can also browse the stones in a store to see which ones ‘call out to you.’
Once you find your stone collection set up a cleansing maintenance program. Energy absorbed by the crystals needs to be cleared from time to time. Ways to cleanse your crystals include washing it in water (holy, running or salted); placing it in sunlight or moonlight; smudging with sage (or palo santo, or similar sacred woods or plants). You can also use sound (chanting, singing bowls, tuning forks) and breath.
I find running water to be very effective, like a rejuvenating stream. Water cleansing should only be used on hard stones, else they will dissolve. Such stones include selenite, kyanite, and halite. Salted water is detrimental to soft stones or stones with trace metals.
The beauty of crystals is that they resonate at their own vibration and do the work they are intended to do. They do this without judgment. The key for us is to recognize how you can be in partnership with them.
Create an altar or a crystal grid in your living or work space. A crystal grid is a means to amplify the energies of many stones. The grid has an intention as its focal point. The intention should idealy relate to a specific area of your life: healing, abundance, finances, career, relationship, or anything important that needs addressing.
Because each crystal has different energies, it’s always good to know which crystal is right for you and your needs, and there may be a crystal that you are just drawn to ~ Katherine Hurst
Choose the stones that best relate to your intention. There are many books and online references to help you choose the best stones. Also, when you buy a stone it is recommended to hold it and determine if it ‘sits well in your hand.’ Does it feel good? Does it feel right?
Another option for crystal grids is to set them up using sacred geometry, such as the Kabbalah tree of life or a Native American medicine wheel.
If you wish to explore the realm of crystals, visit your local gemstone or esoteric store. Pick up a few stones that you intuitively connect with, or ask the store for a stone that might help you for your immediate concern.
Enjoy your journey with crystals. Carry some with you. Be prepared for interesting things to happen. For example, many people who use Shungite report that they tend to vanish. They only stay for a while and move on. This has happened to me several times.
