Let Spirit Put Ego In Its Place
I recently had a conversation with a lovely, learned lady who was quite beside herself, because her husband of ten years simply got up and walked out on her… with no explanation whatsoever! She was understandably beside herself with shock and grief. I asked her what kind of relationship she felt they had and she assured me it was a very loving one. I find it almost impossible to believe that a loving, caring partner would all of a sudden just turn his back with all they had shared together and walk out the door, in what appeared to be a cold and callous man.
I then asked her why she felt they had such a good situation between them and she said it was because she loved him so much. She did all she could to keep him happy and satisfied. Well, now we were obviously getting somewhere. On further probing I found this man had been emotionally detached, and certainly oblivious to her needs. How can this, by any definition, be a warm and loving relationship?
Her ego most assuredly suffered a blow, but I do wonder where spirit was in all of this. It would make no sense to me if spirit accepted such a one-sided relationship that was completely devoid of any care or kindness.
My suspicion is that she had convinced herself that this ‘relationship’ had to maintain itself, or she would not be an ‘acceptable’ woman if she did not have a prominent male in her life, even under these trying conditions. There we go, when ego runs the show a myriad of pains can certainly appear on the horizon!
Anytime there is a struggle between doing what is actually right and doing what seems right, then your ego is interfering with your decision ~ Darren L. Johnson
To add fuel to this already explosive predicament, she was also having difficulties at work. This lady is a highly-gifted designer who makes and sells her own jewelry, yet somehow she convinced herself that she had to be like her co-workers. But she is like a fish out of water. Her co-workers do not like or accept her. Why would they, she in her spirit self is assuredly not one of them. Her boss openly appears to dislike her as well.
Now, to compound all of this, she was determined to take a course in this particular field of work, which spirit had no connection to. Never mind that she possessed no acumen for this particular career path, and struggled daily with even her feeble attempts to read and study the required documentation. She had convinced herself that if she did not complete this course and have a successful viable outcome, she was indeed a failure.
Ego has completely encircled her entire being, squashing any kind of attachment to spirit. To me, this was an onslaught to the soul, and I could not believe that a human could so deny spirit and allow ego to so thoroughly envelop all that was sacred to her.
This is one of the strongest women I have ever encountered, yet sadly could not get her to accept this was an arrangement with ego that was doomed to fail, as it was so contrary to the way she would naturally operate.
If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It’s very important to be aware of them every time they come up ~ Deepak Chopra
She is now still fighting with herself in the most unproductive manner, which of course will result in the failure she so wantonly struggles with. Imagine, if she could find the proper place for ego, amalgamate it with spirit, so that it is in her own best interest. What a success she would be!
Sorry, ego, I love you dearly, but sometimes you are simply misplaced. Please dear friend, before you find yourself in a twist that you feel that you cannot release yourself from, check in with spirit and recognize where exactly ego really needs to be. Once you are able to find the appropriate spot, all will be well and you will have a much easier and happy time going forward.
