The True Purpose Of Life

It is often said that the purpose of our existence is love. This is in part true, we are constantly evolving into a greater understanding of love. But this is really only half of the answer. The purpose of life is also the experience. The point of it all is to have interactions.

Yes, it is true that each of us has incarnated with a specific purpose for being here. Ultimately the purpose of life is to recognize our most authentic expression of what it means to be us, and then cultivate the freedom to express that authentic self. Love most certainly facilitates this process, but you could say a better explanation of the meaning of life is the experience itself.

We all incarnated on this planet from perfect love, and will return to perfect love. Within the realm of spirit we are all one. In fact, we are all one at this very moment. However, in the time-space paradigm, it is easy to lose touch with this Oneness of Spirit.

Each soul living on this planet has an innate desire to cultivate unique creative expression. Whether that creative expression is writing, musical expressions, serving others, cultivating human ties, and so on. Most of us incarnated with the specific intent to accomplish multiple ‘purposes.’ And so we go through life having a multitude of different kinds of experiences.

To fully understand life’s purpose we must recognize that there is no wrong way to live life. Here some will say, “But what about the people that commit horrible acts of violence? Clearly, they are living life incorrectly.” Nearly every spiritual tradition does teach certain moral boundaries. One of the most common teachings being: do no harm. Those that commit such acts have therefore utilized their own free will in a way that is contrary to love. This is why the focus on love, from a spiritual perspective, is so crucial.

You could say that some individuals have entered into this reality and became so disconnected from the love that they have dissociated from the sanity of their own being. Does this mean that they are living life incorrectly? No. In fact, the only way for them to return to a clear mental and emotional state is for them to once again recognize that they come from love and will return to love. This recognition is not a ‘free pass.’ However, I am confident that every person that has committed heinous actions will be responsible for such actions. What we give out does come back to us multiplied, for this is spiritual law.

Many of us have come to this planet to teach love. If you are reading this, then it is very likely that you are one of these souls. However, we can only teach what we have, or what we are learning. The world most certainly needs more love in it. Sadly, it is widely accepted to maintain hatred and anger against those who perpetrate harsh things on our planet. However, if we address these things by continually punishing them, or labeling them as evil and worthy of our hatred, there is no way for them to ever truly change.

Labels promote destiny. I certainly agree with separating violent and dangerous people from those that would be vulnerable to their influence. However, I am also convinced that if we are to truly promote positive change on the planet, we must treat these people with the love, respect, and dignity that they deserve.

The purpose of life is most certainly to experience. Something within us wanted to see a contradiction. So, we arrived from a Source with no contradiction and chose an amnesic state in which we would then evolve back into the love from which we came. It is all a part of the process of being human. To embrace love and transcend fear. For fear and love are the two core contradictions in our world. However, one of these things is an illusion created by the mind, and the other is the force by which all things came into being.

There are times when it is absolutely appropriate to embrace the contradictions. We often stand as witnesses to the quandaries of our own reality. The ability to cultivate peace within these environments is one of the primary experiences many of us desired to have on this human journey. So, be kind to yourself, even in the midst of contradiction. The purpose of life is not perfection, it is the process. The painter that creates a masterpiece is absolutely engaged in the process. The journey from blank canvas to a masterpiece is the purpose of the artists. Appreciation of the masterpiece is the purpose of the viewer. Both positions hold intrinsic value in the experience of our world. Life is meant to be lived.

What is the purpose of life? For me, at this very moment, my purpose is manifested in my ability to write this down. Tomorrow it may be my ability to stop and smell the roses. You could say that one purpose we have is to express our true beauty; to be the beauty in the world. Another purpose is to experience the beauty in the world. Constantly taking in and giving out harmoniously with the nature and process of life.
