How To Not Lose Your Mind
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard comments like “people are losing their minds,” or “folks are sure cracking up lately!” The last one is from my sweet Grandma. She says this almost every day when she watches the news. She does have a point – it definitely does seem that way, doesn’t it?
I noticed people losing their minds on the road, at the gas pump, and in grocery stores. There was also the women at the salon, talking on the phone with someone. Many people do seem to be so quick to anger. Some even go into a mad rage over their hamburger not being cooked right (as we heard recently on the news).

But I don’t want to get into the disturbing stories on the news, as that only stirs up more negative emotions. Most of us love animals and children, and it seems there is so much evil in the world and violence against the innocent. I just can’t wrap my head around why people sometimes do the things they do.
Hearing these horrible stories and being indirectly affected energetically and emotionally by them, I reached out to Spirit in the hope of retrieving some answers. What can we do to help each other, while protecting ourselves from all this negative energy? These things certainly take a toll, day after day, seeing the disconnect in action while we are out and about.
Well, Spirit says the reason why people are ‘cracking up’ is:
Social Media
Social media has become a global obsession and a source of toxic energy. If your going to engage in social media, limit the amount of time you spend on it. Just because you have a social media account, doesn’t mean you have to read or see everything, nor slavishly follow other peoples updates. You can change your privacy settings, turn your notifications off, or unfollow those who always spread negativity. Only visit peoples pages when you want to, and be selective in your choices. And when you post something yourself, try to focus on spreading some good news and uplifting messages.
Substance Abuse
Many people abuse alcohol, drugs and medication to cope with the stresses of our times. And it messes with their mental faculties, making them emotionally unstable and short-tempered. Stay away from these energy lowering substances, and get help for those around you who may have an unhealthy relationship with any mind-altering substances.

Dysfunctional Relationships
Create healthy boundaries. Surround yourself with positive people. Even a nun would be prone to ‘snapping’ if having to be around a toxic person for long enough.
Purposeless Priorities
Make sure you have your priorities in check. Ask yourself what is really most important in your life? For me, my family will always come first. When I am spending time with them, my phone is turned off and they have my full attention. Don’t allow the madness of the world to distract you from the people and projects in your life that matter most. By the way, from my own personal experience, getting rid of the television all together is something I can highly recommend.
Spiritual Disconnection
Make more of an effort with your daily spiritual practice. It is also important to be part of a spiritual family, or just being able to connect with like-minded people. Find out what your spiritual center is, and spend time doing that.
Spending time in nature, praying, meditating, and keeping work and play balanced are just a few examples of ways to reconnect with your higher self. Spirituality will definitely help you to stay grounded, and focus on what is most important. It will keep your mind off of all the negativity in the world and prevent you from ‘cracking up’ like the rest.
