Paranormal Encounters At The Old White House
For some time my wife and I had been looking for a new home. Being psychic has always been helpful when one goes house hunting. Growing up in haunted home, I am always very cautious about the properties we consider. Experience has taught me that it is not always the house itself that is haunted – it can also be the land that the house is built on.
Currently we live in the countryside. Yes, we do have one traffic light, and yes, we do have a chicken stand. We wanted to look for something that would offer us a brand new beginning. We have gone through many realtors, of whom none had the patience for us to find the right house.
My wife eventually found a lady named Alice, from another town. When we met her, we told her we wanted a good size house with some land and an outbuilding to run a small business. I told Alice that I did psychic readings and when I walk into a house I could pick up on any spiritual energy that may be present. Our new realtor thought it cool that I had psychic gifts, and I told her it does help when looking for a house.

But for some reason, Alice at first got the wrong idea. She would take us to older houses built in the late 1800’s, in the hope of finding a really spooky place to satisfy our needs! I then had to make it clear to her I that grew up in haunted houses and I don’t ever want that again. I even told her I would not want to be on one of those ghost hunting shows on television, because I already lived in a haunted house.
There is one house in our area my wife has always been drawn to. It was the first house in the next county, over from where we live. Every August we would go to a street fair there, and we would walk by this old house. As years went by land around it slowly disappeared. The house and the old barn was still there, but several houses had been built around it over the years. Yet, after all these years this house remained empty.
One year at the street fair my wife decided she wanted to see the house. The old white house with the barn seemed so lonely with no one living in it. We decided to sit on the steps in front it eating our fair food. While sitting there I began to sense a very strong smell of old-fashioned perfume. It was not subtle like today’s fragrances. No, this stuff was so strong it could make your eyes water. It was certainly spoiling the lovely aroma coming from my street food.
After a while my wife said, “Do you smell that?” I nodded and then she said, “Why didn’t you say something to me earlier?” I look at her said, “How many times in the past have I asked you if you can smell something, and you would never smell anything?” Well, this sealed the deal for my beloved spouse. She said, “I am going to call Alice and see if she can find the owners, so we can go inside the house and have a look.”
There has never been a “for sale” sign in front of the house, and since we lived in another county we didn’t know how long it been empty or whether it was available. After contacting Alice did not hear from her until about three weeks later. She had found the great grandchildren who own the house. She also told us that if we like the house, and made them a good offer, they might just sell it to us.

So, the day finally came where we got to see this mysterious old house. It still had some of the old furniture and family pictures on the walls. It even had those old gas lights still installed. One thing I really liked about the house is the trim on the hinges on the doors that lead upstairs. It was clearly an old house.
Eventually I was tired waiting for my wife and the realtor, so I decided to sit on one of the very old chairs. Out of the corner of my eye I then saw the figure of a dark shadow walk by me. I was so tired, I thought it was just my imagination. I did not expect any paranormal activity, because when we walked in I did not sense any spirits or ghosts in the house. In fact, I felt the house seemed so lonely and abandoned.
After the tour we told Alice we would talk it over and we would get back to her. On the way home I told my wife that on our next visit I wanted to bring my camera, because I feel the place might be haunted after all. So, we decided to go back and take some pictures around the house. When we downloaded the pictures we discovered in one image what looked like a man who was sitting by the window, reading a book. He was dressed like the characters on that classic television series Little House on the Prairie!
We went back many times to that old house, but in the end we decided not to buy it, because it was haunted. Although we were intrigued by the charm of the place, I just did not wish to go through a repetition of some my childhood experiences. So, if you ever consider buying a very old house, please check out the owners who had the house built and the history of the land.
