Your Unique Role In The Global Awakening
A caller recently asked me to clarify something that her brother talks about constantly. He tells her that she has her “head in the sand” and that we are on the threshold of a “global awakening.”
‘What is he talking about?‘ she asked.
There has always been talk of a global spiritual awakening, for as long as I can remember.
In my youth, I assumed it might be something dramatic or supernatural, like a divine rapture, or angelic beings appearing all at once, or extraterrestrials arriving with a profound message of love and peace for planet Earth.
My understanding completely changed in the mid-1980s when I discovered the teachings of Emmanuel, the spirit guide channeled by the late Pat Rodegast, whose work has remained a favorite of mine ever since.
In Emmanuel’s Book II: The Choice for Love, Emmanuel speaks about the challenges of these times and how many souls have chosen to incarnate now to witness the global awakening.
The awakening as a worldwide shift in human consciousness. Emmanuel describes it as an evolutionary maturation process in which humanity increasingly chooses love over fear, a developmental turning point in our collective consciousness free from materialistic pursuits fuelled by the ego.
It is a period in history when humanity recognises the interconnectedness of people around the world. People realise the importance of personal growth and compassion for one another and for everything on the planet.
Once again a new world view is arising … This idea is the culmination of all human history. It holds the promise of fulfilling the great aspirations of the past and heralds the advent of the next phase of our evolution ~ Barbara Marx Hubbard
The concept of a collective or global spiritual awakening is nothing new. It goes back to ancient religious and philosophical traditions which viewed human life as part of a broader evolutionary or cyclical process.
In Hindu cosmology, for example, the movement through the Yugas is said to describe shifts in collective consciousness. In Buddhism, the possibility of mass awakening arises through the spread of the Dharma. In Christian Mysticism, a transformation of humanity through Christ Consciousness is expected, rather than through institutional religion.
In the late 19th century, the concept took a more explicitly evolutionary form through the work of the Theosophical Society, which synthesised Eastern metaphysics with Western esotericism and proposed that humanity evolves through stages of awareness and waves of incarnation.
This evolutionary spiritual framework had a strong influence on early 20th-century occult teachings and later New Thought movements, all affirming the idea that humanity as a whole was progressing towards higher consciousness.
Mid-20th-century thinkers, such as the Christian mystic Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, reimagined the concept by proposing the ‘Omega Point’ and a planetary noosphere in which human consciousness converges.
By the 1960s and 1970s, countercultural spirituality, transpersonal psychology and the human potential movement further popularised the idea that a large-scale shift in awareness was underway. This era laid the groundwork for what would later become known today as the New Age movement.
The ‘Age of Aquarius’, an astrological concept based on the precession of the equinoxes, is closely associated with the idea of a global awakening. It comes from the astronomical phenomenon known as the precession of the equinoxes, which shifts the position of the spring equinox through the zodiac over roughly 26,000 years.
Something serious has to be done about the dangers facing the planet. Most of humanity wants to know how to make the change. It’s one of those tipping-point times where things can change unbelievably fast ~ Paul Ray & Sherry Ruth Anderson
Dividing that cycle into twelve “ages” of about 2,160 years each is a long-standing concept in Western esoteric astrology. Based on this precession, humanity is moving from the Piscean age into a new era characterised by innovation, humanitarianism, and expanded awareness. Although astrologers disagree on the exact dates, the symbolism of this astrological shift has gained significant cultural influence in the late 20th century.
From the 1980s onwards, channelers, spiritual teachers and consciousness researchers presented awakening as a process that occurs both personally and on a planetary scale.
The idea of a planetary awakening reached another cultural peak around 2012 with widespread interpretations of the Mayan Long Count calendar. The completion of the 13-baktun cycle on 21 December 2012 was widely regarded as predicting either an apocalyptic event or a symbolic threshold in the shift in human consciousness.
With the benefit of hindsight, 2012 is now seen less as a literal turning point and more as a psychological milestone: a moment when collective anticipation crystallised around the long-standing belief that humanity was entering a new phase of awareness.
Today, the concept manifests in various forms, including 5D consciousness and New Earth teachings. Although interpretations vary, the fundamental notion remains consistent throughout history: humanity is not static, but evolving towards a more expanded or higher state of awareness.
When we look at all the political drama and social problems, environmental crises, and economic troubles that have happened around the world in recent years, it’s easy to feel worried or overwhelmed. But, when we consider the long-held belief in a global shift in the consciousness of humanity, all the recent upheaval makes sense. We can’t expect a global acceleration in heightened awareness that has been gaining momentum for decades to be peaceful, calm, easy, and organised.
The more people awaken, the more they find out about things that were hidden. Systems that no longer work well start to break down. Old narratives and beliefs are no longer as popular. The fact that so many of us are feeling uncomfortable now doesn’t mean that the world is ending, but that things are changing.
It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope ~ Robert F. Kennedy
As we awaken, we see things differently. We become aware of our true nature as spiritual beings here to learn challenging lessons. The limitations we place on ourselves, and the prospects that used to scare us, no longer faze us. We begin to trust that the plan we made for our lives before incarnating is unfolding perfectly. I call this the ‘Architect’s Plan’ unfolding.
Over these past six months, I have noticed a shift in many clients’ approach to their own circumstances. They are questioning their reason for being in this world, and becoming more open to accepting that they chose their life paths.
This, in turn, brings about great healing for their body, mind and spirit, as they no longer feel like victims of their circumstances. They realise that they can change their course to a certain degree by making different choices.
I have particularly noticed customers’ willingness to surrender to what will be, and no longer resist changes as they used to. This suggests that they are beginning to trust that everything is working out at the right time, according to their individual life plan and divine timing.
When we take full responsibility for our lives, what we have been through, and the people we have attracted, we can move from just watching what is happening in the world to taking part in the big changes that are happening.
You can’t control everything that is going on the world, but you can have an impact on the people and circumstances around you. Now is not a time to have our “heads in the sand.” If you focus on how you can personally heal, grow, contribute, and act with integrity, this will help to add momentum to the larger movement that is already underway.
