Recurring Dream A Sign Of Things To Come
Over the years I have had many dreams I never knew at the time was a sign of things to come. There is one particular dream I had repeatedly, and I did not realize how its message would ultimately affect members of my family.
My first real job was with my brother. He owned a painting company and he offered me a job before my summer vacation in high school.
At this time I had a dream about my brother and sister-in-law. In my dream they were in an earthquake. Living in Ohio this was unlikely, as we normally do not experience earthquakes here. In this dream I can remember the ground splitting apart and my brother was reaching out to my sister in-law’s hands, to pull her to safety. But he couldn’t bring her to safety and at that moment I always woke up.
Become a good noticer. Pay attention to the feelings, hunches, and intuitions that flood your life each day. If you do, you will see that premonitions are not rare, but a natural part of our lives ~ Larry Dossey
The dream returned many nights and eventually I went to the library to get a book on dreams – to look up the symbolic meaning of earthquakes. But there was nothing in there to suggest anything that was useful. Fortunately the dreams eventually stopped.
The following year I decide to join the military to find my way in life. While I was away for boot camp the earthquake dream started up again. It was the same dream, but this time my brother was yelling and screaming for my sister-in-law’s help instead. I would once again wake up before anything was resolved.
The first opportunity I got I called my brother up to see if everything was fine on the home front, especially between him and my sister in-law. But he was more worried about how they were treating me in the army. He wanted to know how was the food, and stuff like that. My concern about the dreams didn’t seem to bother him at all.
How often do you ignore a dream, dismiss it as fantasy and then see echoes of the dream around you the following day? What if a dream were the forewarning of what will become your reality; if you are being told within the world of a dream what may occur in the near or distant future, but your mind mangles the truth and information so much that you discard it as fiction? ~ Samantha Robertson
After finishing boot camp, and on my way back to Ohio, I called my parents to tell them when my flight would come in. But there was no answer at home. I thought they might be on their way to the airport to pick me up and when I did reach the airport I would have a wonderful welcome party.
But nobody was there to pick me up? I bumped into one of our neighbors and he told me that my parents were in fact at the hospital. Apparently my sister-in-law blacked out while she was driving and she hit a house with her car. And unbelievably, my brother fell from the scaffolding for a paint job at a local church, and broke both his feet!
The earthquake dream must have been a warning, but we did not see it at the time.
