What Brings True Happiness?
Sitting in my meditation room, I set my intention. I wanted to connect with my guide and through doing so ask a few questions I have been pondering with my earthly mind. Sitting quietly, spirit approached.
This energy was all too familiar, it was my guide, my main guide, the one who promised me in life he would reach out to me once fully transitioned. Yes, just like all the times before, like a big ball of love with a wonderful loving smile, my Grandpa came to me. Sitting without words, as our communication is always telepathic, he was resonating pure white light and love.
Be happy with what you have. Be excited about what you want ~ Alan Cohen
Without hesitation I asked him: “What brings happiness, true happiness? We all experience it, it comes in spurts but it is never long-lasting. What can we do to drop kick all the worry, anxiety, fear, tension and depression out the door? We all know that money doesn’t bring happiness, although, many are still caught up in that illusion that having money brings about great happiness. It is great that it helps make life easier and gets the bills paid, but true happiness must come from something else.”
My Grandpa then told me that I have already found what true happiness is. I thought about it for a moment. I went through my life, the moments I was most happiest. Those moments I reached the greatest amount of what we would define as bliss; those serene, tranquil type of feelings. Those moments, I found upon reflection, were brought about by my own doing, my own actions.
I am not sure if he helped me manifest those visions of the past, or if I was going to them in my mind by myself.
I saw myself walking a well-worn path, which I would walk every morning in the woods for years. Those walks gave me great happiness, or if you prefer, contentment.
Then I saw myself reading in a bath I had prepared for myself, with homemade lavender Epsom salts. These are my little mini-vacation escapes, I always tell people. They are pure contentment and joy for me. When I do things like this is paves the way for me to have a great day – my body feels good, my spirits are lifted!
Next, I saw myself going through my home and filling trash bags full of items I really enjoyed at one time, but no longer gave me any joy. I saw myself giving these items away to the Salvation Army, where others could enjoy my once-upon-a-time treasures.
Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present ~ Jim Rohn
Realizing that I instantly became aware of what he was conveying to me, what he wanted me to see and recognize. True happiness is making oneself feel complete contentment!
Remembering those special moments, reminded me what gives us humans pure happiness – it is contentment. Being content. Not wanting for anything, only the moment. Saturating oneself in what we love. Often times that doesn’t really take a lot of money, or time, or even energy.
My Grandfather always has a way with breaking it down for me to comprehend that which I’m trying to understand. In my own way of thinking I would have never looked at it that way. So, upon receiving this information I decided that taking care of myself, taking the time each day to do something good for myself, will ultimately bring about contentment. Incidentally, I have noticed this approach also washes away negative emotions like the worry and feelings of depression and anxiety.
