Psychic Plants
Plants are everywhere, even in urban environments – from the windowsill potted plant to the hundred-year-old oak in a city park. What you may not know is that plants, just like people and animals, are psychic and react strongly to the energies around them.
In a well-known experiment, scientist Cleve Backster, who was at the time working with police departments to develop polygraph (lie detector) machines, attached a plant to one of these machines. He found that the plant detected intent. For example, the plant reacted with humanlike responses, such as fear and anxiety, to his thoughts of burning the plant.
The plant also showed an empathic response to pain, such as when Backster cut his finger. The results were even the same when he directed his thoughts toward the plant from some distance away. All this from a common potted plant found in an office!

So, how do we, in modern times, interact with these plants who can feel, store memories, and express very human emotions such as love or fear? In many Native American cultures, when a plant was taken for food, or other use, it was the tradition to thank the plant itself, along with the gods and the Universe, for this gift.
One unique perspective plants can give us, is the fact that they are literally rooted in place and cannot move freely. What you see is very much what you get. They do not have layers of self-important emotions and defenses in place, the way people do. In this sense, they are like young children who have not yet become jaded by the world around them.
Even someone with little to no experience of the psychic realms has experienced a spiritual connection with plants: a walk through the forest, a picnic in an open meadow, or a visit to a local garden or arboretum.
Each plant has a unique message for us, if we are willing to listen – from the tallest redwood to the African violet in the kitchen at home. It’s easy to connect with them, if we start to think of them as individual personalities with stories to tell. If you don’t know where to start, pick a plant you see every day. Talk to it, and chances are you will start to pick up on the messages it is sending you. If you feel especially self-conscious, approach the plant the way a child would. The most consistent gift plants give us is the serenity and calm of staying in one place, and thriving in the environment they are given. Beginning a relationship with these vibrant and psychic fellow life forms is the start of a partnership that has existed since the dawn of humankind. After all, plants are responsible for giving us breathable, oxygenated air here on Earth!
If the idea of talking to your houseplants still makes you feel uncomfortable, remember this fact alone. Having an open psychic dialogue with plants is no different than relationships with other people or with our pets. In fact, in many ways, it’s even more rewarding.
