Time Lords Among Us
With the popularity of the long-running television series Doctor Who, chances are you’ve heard of ‘time lords.’ They are time-traveling humanoid aliens with uncanny powers. But did you know that there’s truth to this popular fiction?
A small number of people, by some estimates one or two percent of the population, possess the gift of time-space synesthesia. It is an unusual ability in which our emotions and senses are delicately intertwined.
Perhaps you have heard of people who are able to taste music, or hear colors? With the gift of time-space synesthesia, the individual perceives within multiple dimensions. In other words, they literally see dimensional time. For example, the synesthete may perceive a rotating calendar around their body closely matching the Earth’s rotation around the Sun – quite literally the passage of a calendar year.
Our look is as bound by time-space as our brain. We never look, we never see beyond this limitation; we do not know how to look through and beyond these fragmentary frontiers ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
Synesthetes usually possess uncanny memories. For example, they may be able to tell you exactly what they did on a particular day of their lives, or they might project upon which day of the week a future date might occur. This should not necessarily be confused with a so-called savant ability. On the contrary, synesthesia is the literal ability to visualize abstract concepts.
Though this phenomenon has only become recently known, studies have been conducted on these gifted people. The evidence suggests that the patterns of seeing time are similar among unrelated individuals. Typically they perceive calendars drawn in circular patterns with varied colors. The synesthetes were also able to remember many more details than an average person might.
So, can synesthesia be considered a psychic gift? Absolutely. Time-space is a difficult concept for the layman to understand without a degree in advanced physics. One might say that these time-space synesthetes are already in touch with the mysteries of our multi-dimensional universe. Time-travel, as it’s usually portrayed in movies, may be out of reach for the time being, but chances are if anyone ever learns how to do it, it will be these folks!
How can you tell if you might have time-space synesthesia? Several tests have been developed by scientists and psychics alike, but, as with all psychic gifts, one usually simply knows. Some people have a hard time finding out simply because what seems ordinary to them may be extraordinary to others. They can’t understand why a non-gifted friend may not see the world in the same unique and beautiful way.

If you think you may have this ability, stop to meditate on the subject of time-space. What does it mean to you? How do you perceive it? Journal, free-draw, or speak aloud your thoughts. Chances are patterns will start to emerge, and you’ll feel a connection to these abstract concepts. You may not find yourself traveling through time in a phone booth or listening to the beat of a second heart, but you will be able to tap into your ability. Treat it as a gift, and thank the Universe. Don’t forget to set aside enough time (and space) to do so!
