Exploring Your Past Lives
Because the life we’re now living is one of only countless past and future lifetimes our soul will experience, there will be times when we experience the strange sense of déjà vu. We all have those moment when we feel that we’ve been somewhere, seen something, or met someone before, even when that seems impossible. And we probably have!
Although our conscious mind does not remember the events of a past life, our body (in fact, science tells us, our very cells) do remember. This phenomenon can appear in different forms. Some of us may be drawn to a particular culture or language, even if we’ve never been there. For example, you may be American, but feel an affinity for all things Japanese. Perhaps certain smells or tastes will trigger a subconscious past life memory. In this life, we experience only one set of sensory inputs. However, our spiritual selves are feeling, tasting, smelling, and hearing the memories of many former lives.
You are the sum of all your thoughts, feelings and actions from this life and every lifetime in the past ~ Harold Klemp
If you’re interested in finding out more about these past life experiences, the easiest way is to look for patterns. Journal your findings, including dreams. Once you establish these patterns, reading books or period films about the time in question is a good way to start. Many people have reported “finding” themselves once immersed in the right time period.
Try historical re-enactment, such as the Renaissance or American Civil War, if you’re feeling adventurous. Talk to others. It’s very common for friends and loved ones to meet many times over the centuries. When you compare notes, you might start to see a good bit of overlapping. If you’re lucky, you might even discover how you first met.
Objects can be powerful talismans, in addition to triggering onsets of déjà vu. Museums are a great way to get in close contact with the pas, and because most of us will never be able to afford a Roman helmet or Russian Faberge egg, it is the closest we’re likely to get to such historic objects. If there are historical sites in the area, these are also great places to visit. Past lives are a little like magnets – they tend to draw us in a certain direction. The more we read and study, the more we’re going to discover.
Approach your past lives with an open mind, as with any spiritual discipline. Don’t be disappointed if you’re not immediately filled in on a past life. Don’t expect every lifetime to be someone famous or noteworthy. After all, someone had to wait on the queen and build the pyramids!
To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it more fit for its prime function of looking forward ~ Margaret Fairless Barber
The truth is, every life is valuable and has something to teach us. That is the reason for our cycle of lives; that we learn, grow, and gain enlightenment. Someday in the distant future, we may look back at our “present” life and wonder what took us so long to learn a particular lesson.
Most of all, don’t think you have to take the journey of past life discovery alone. Every soul is connected to every other soul somehow. Those you meet in passing today may be friends waiting to happen, or else old friends you’d just forgotten about. And they’re all on the same road to knowledge as you!
