Digging Deeper Into The Signs Of The Zodiac
Astrology fans are often familiar with the general traits of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. For example, we may know our best friend is headstrong because she is Aries, or we might have a moody Cancer parent, or a wisecracking Sagittarius coworker. But how well do we really know the deeper characteristics of each sign?
Each sign has, for example, a hidden side – and it is not just signs such as Gemini or Pisces, which we often associate with duality. Plus, each person’s natal or birth chart is unique! No two charts are alike, just as no two people are exactly alike.
The Fire signs are stereotyped as confident go-getters, who know exactly what they want from life and are born leaders. However, Aries, as the first sign of the Zodiac, seems confrontational to some, but can be sensitive and even childlike. Think of the charging ram versus the meeker sheep. Leo the lion comes across as egotistical and uncaring, putting everyone else below her, but she is also the protector of her pride and makes an excellent parent and confidante. And Sagittarius is literally of two worlds: the horse (animal) side symbolizing wild abandon and humor, and the human, philosophical part which is serious-minded and appreciates deeper meaning.

The Earth signs may have the toughest stereotype to overcome: traditional, homebody, boring, stick-in-the-mud kind of folks. However, while Taurus may be seen as slow and lazy to an untrained eye, one had better look out when that bull decides to charge and use its horns for a just cause! If you’ve ever known a Virgo, you may think they are the quiet, judgmental, fussy types of the Zodiac, but the truth is they are self-sufficient and clever, and make great leaders. Capricorns are often said to be the ‘cold’ type, obsessed with status and power, but once they trust, they reveal a sense of fun unrivaled in the Zodiac.
‘Airheads’ might be a word some use to describe the Air signs. However, Gemini, the literally two-faced twin, is not as flaky as you might expect. The facade he puts on for your benefit is not always his true self, and his ‘hidden twin’ often proves to be very capable, loyal, and smart. Libra are a relaxed sign and sometimes might seem passive when they’re taking it all in, but they are carefully coming to conclusions and they’re also highly introspective. Aquarius are, in pop culture, synonymous with flightiness and eccentricity (the Age of Aquarius) but they actually hide a pragmatic streak and a keen sense of social justice and egalitarianism.

It’s also easy to stereotype the Water signs as being overly emotional or even wishy-washy, but, like a deep pond, there is more to them than meets the eye. A Cancer may lack confidence, because she fears judgment, and often keeps her quick wit and cleverness to herself, until she is fully comfortable sharing. It’s tempting to try and paint Scorpio as ‘dark’ when in fact Scorpions can be extremely passionate and caring and will do anything for their close friends and family. And Pisces may get written off as simply dreamy or ethereal, when in fact these folks are, as the twelfth and final sign of the Zodiac, often are the clever and insightful ones!
So, the next time you meet someone and discover their Zodiac sign, be sure and read between the lines before making that initial judgment. You may just be pleasantly surprised!
