The Mystery Of The Mandela Effect

There is an unexplained phenomena known as the ‘Mandela Effect.’ Its name is derived from the occurrence of a collective ‘false memory’ that a number of people shared. They all remembered that Nelson Mandela had passed away in prison back in the 1980’s. Yet, his actual death was December 5, 2013.

These false memories are said to be more common than we may realize and that thousands of people may be experiencing the same false memories. Some paranormal experts and theorists believe they could be attributed to some of us shifting to a parallel dimension, or alternate reality. This parallel realm of existence might be so close to our own that there are only subtle differences – so much so that if you’re not paying attention, you may not even notice anything out of the ordinary.

For example, the brand name of a well-known American meat and cold cut production company. Many people remember it being spelled ‘Oscar Mayer.’ They even remember singing the childhood spelling song.

Yet, there are also many people who remember it as always being spelled Oscar Meyer, with two E’s.

Another example, in the classic movie Star Wars, in which the character Darth Vader tells Luke Skywalker, “No, I am your father”. Yet, many of us remember him as saying, ”Luke, I am your father”. This has many of us perplexed. As a child we played Star Wars games, quoting Darth Vader with that famous line. Yet, after going back and watching the movie, that is not at all what he says in that scene. Also, in the movie Star Wars. I don’t ever remember C3Po the golden robot as ever having a partial silver leg. Yet, when watching the movie recently. He now has a silver leg?

If people did live in different times or dimensions, the sensation of déjà vu would acquire another potential explanation. When that feeling comes, could it be a memory or a ‘crossover’ from that parallel universe? ~ Paul Ratner

Another example can be found in the King James version of the Bible. In Isaiah 11:6 I remember it stating, “And, the lion shall lie down with the lamb.” Yet, when I referenced my 1973 Bible, in Isaiah 11:6 the verse says, “And, the wolf shall lie down with the lamb”. I had never even heard such a quote before? Wolves and lambs? Yet, apparently that is the way it has always been. My memory must be deceiving me.

In yet another example, many of us remember the Monopoly Man as being a little bald man with a monocle. Yet, he doesn’t have a monocle and according to research he never has? Some people also remember Jiffy, the famous American brand of peanut butter. I certainly do! But, apparently, there never was a brand of peanut butter called Jiffy. The brand name has always been Jif.

These are just a few examples. The list collective ‘false memories’ goes on and on. And, people are discovering new enigmas every day. There are a few different theories and explanations people are discussing on the Internet. One of them being that the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) may have caused a ‘splinter in time and space’ when it fired up the Large Hadron Collider in 2008, in a study to recreate the after-effects of the Big Bang. Currently, there’s no real evidence to support this theory, but the idea has a lot of believers, including more than 200,000 users on Reddit.

From my perspective as a cognitive psychologist, there’s more than faulty memory behind the Mandela effect…  It’s not just that our memories are unreliable, it’s that our intuitions about how memory works are inaccurate as well ~ David Ludden

Other theorists believe there may be endless universes or dimensions closely aligned with ours and we shift in and out of them, with our timeline in a constant state of flux. And the frequency of our vibration in every moment dictates which reality we are in. They believe a person can only exist in a reality of the same frequency their mind is attuned to. Another theory proposes the possibility that changes in history are caused by time travelers. Or, maybe we are shifting into what is known in New Age spirituality as the ‘Fifth Dimension’ or the ‘Fifth Density.’ In this case it is believed that our current realities between the Third and Fifth Dimensions are overlapping, until the shift is complete.

I choose to reserve my personal opinion in this matter. I leave it up to you to decide if you are experiencing any of these false memory phenomena yourself, and what you believe may be the cause or explanation.
