A Flower For Suzy
My best friend and I went to a parade the other day, where we did a lot of walking. Flowers were everywhere. It was fun seeing all the different people who came to this festival. I usually don’t like being around crowds, but it was fun and relaxing on that day.
When we needed to take a break, we spent some time sitting in a nearby park. While doing some people-watching, someone unusual caught my eye. But it was not a human… it was a ghost! A beautiful young lady who was obviously disembodied.
I watched her pick up a flower and walk to the nearby road. It seemed as though she kept doing this over and over. She would pick the same flower, over and over, walk to that same spot next to the road, and lay it down.
In sorrow we must go, but not in despair. Behold! we are not bound for ever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
I decided to walk over to the spot where she would keep placing the flower, and saw a little wooden cross hammered into the dirt by the side of the road. It says, “RIP Suzy” above the date of what appears to have been an accident. There were some flowers that people had placed by the wooden cross. I walked over to the spot in the park garden where she kept picking the flowers, and picked an actual flower. Then I walked back to the road and placed the flower near her cross.
I waited for her to become visible to me again. She did. She waved at me and I felt a great sense of having done something she appreciated. She was thanking me by waving at me.
My friend and I decided to go for a walk around the entire perimeter and as we approached that spot I saw her standing by her cross. She said thank you for noticing me and asked me to help her cross over.
My friend knows what I do for a living so she walked over to a nearby fountain and allowed me time to help this sweet soul cross over.
I did my thing and watched her smile and mouth the words, “Thank you.” I could hear what her voice sounded like in life. She then turned into what seemed to me like million balls of light, which immediately disappeared. I suddenly felt a great sense of relief and the feeling of her not being there. She had gone on to her next world. I was happy to have been there at that moment in time, and that I was able to help her.

We decided to dine at a nearby restaurant. While we were talking about the entire experience, our waitress overheard our conversation and told us that her daughter had gone to school with the girl who had passed on that road. She had apparently not been paying attention while crossing the street. They found traces of marijuana in her system during the autopsy. A man who had seen the entire thing told the local newspaper that she had was looking down at her phone when a car hit her. She apparently didn’t die instantly, but later at the hospital.
It was sad to hear this, but also interesting, as we had just been talking about all the people at the park who had their heads down in the phones, while ignoring their playing kids, who were trying to get their parents attention. We were talking about how technology has really taken time away from family connection and bonding. Now, it dawned on us that it sometimes even takes lives!
I dedicate this blog to you Suzy. Glad I could connect with you and help to send you along to your next destination.
