Everyday Mysteries Of The Unexplained

Living on my own I am naturally more conscience of any unusual sounds or movements in and around my home – be they from this realm or the next.

I am not much of a collector, nor a sentimental hoarder. Consequently, the tables, dressers and other surfaces in my house are not crammed with ornaments and trinkets. On my personal dresser I have a few items that have been sitting in the exact same position for a long time. These are only moved on dusting day, which I must confess is not very often.

One of the items on my dresser is a moderate size jewellery box. Inside there are only few sets of modest earrings, as I have never felt the need to wear a watch, and I am not really one for necklaces and bracelets.

Because I seldom need to open my jewellery box, it is always in the exact same place on the dresser.  To my great astonishment, as I was getting ready for the day, it caught my eye that the box was now not only in an entirely different position, but appears to have been moved a substantial distance away from its usual place?

I stared dumbfoundedly for a while, trying to make some sense of it. How was this even possible, as I am the only one in the house? I have not had any visitors recently. How did it get to be placed in such a different position and location?

Whilst I was still trying to figure this out…wouldn’t you know it…another odd event occurred a day or two later.

I volunteer at the local crime prevention office one day per week. I help out in the front office staff, advising members of the public on documentation for police checks for rental and job applications, how to access domestic violence support services, and so on.

The front office is a relatively large space with a long counter to separate the staff from the public for safety reasons. Due to the recent pandemic, a large, thick plexiglass partition was installed to further separate staff from the public.

On the weekends, this area is closed to the public, so if any of the staff need to come in over the weekend they must enter via the back door. Nobody ever comes into the front office area, as there is no need for them to be there. Another safety measure that is always in place is the alarm system which is rigorously enforced.

On Monday morning, as I arrived at the office, the manager was in a fuss. Somehow, over the weekend, the very heavy glass partition had somehow fallen off the counter and shattered into several pieces. We could not fathom how it could possibly have fallen, as the enforcement latches were still in place, and how does a exceptionally thick piece of plexiglass break?

Furthermore, the alarm was still on when the manager came in, so the crash obviously did not set it off. Nobody could come up with a viable explanation as to out how this could possibly have happened.

I ultimately arrived at the same conclusion I did regarding the mystery of the moving jewellery box. Sometimes strange things happen in the physical world that are simply not of this realm. We just don’t notice most of these paranormal occurrences much of the time, if at all. And when one does notice, it is much less perplexing if you have some paranormal awareness, or at least a basic belief in the spiritual, metaphysical, or supernatural.
