Making The Tarot Work For You
The Tarot can be used to gain greater understanding, improve our intuition, and predict what may happen in our lives. But what many fans of the Tarot often do not appreciate, is that the Tarot can also be used productively in everyday life.
The Tarot is a mystical tool that will work differently for everyone. In fact, the meaning and message of the cards will be unique to every situation. For example, if you’re the type of person who typically notices patterns in nature, from images in clouds to numerical patterns, such as license plates, then Tarot will be a natural connection for you.
The right deck is also important. Choose one which reflects your personality and needs. If you are a beginner, a classic deck like the Rider-Waite is perfect, since you will be reflecting on the basic imagery and meaning of the cards. Once you have found ‘your deck,’ there are many ways you can use it, and it doesn’t have to be the elaborate spreads you may have seen more experienced Tarot readers use.
For example, use a Court (King, Queen, or Page) card as your personal archetype for that day, or pull a card randomly to help you make a decision. Any question or dilemma you’re facing, it’s possible to turn to your deck for an answer. You can also use the cards for creative inspiration.
One of the best aspects of using Tarot as a psychic tool, is that it may not be the answer your conscious mind would have created. Tarot, like many other divination tools, is a connection to our subconscious mind.
When first learning to read the Tarot, it will work best if your questions are specific, instead of vague. Rather than asking, “Why am I having a hard time at work?”… consider asking instead, “How could I improve my professional relationship with my co-workers?”, or “Is my personality or my work ethic causing me to lose out on promotions?” As with any study in the psychic field, the more tailored the question is, the more personal and relevant the answers we receive will be.
There are many methods for developing the “sense of symbols” in those who are striving to understand the hidden forces of Nature and Man, and for teaching the fundamental principles as well as the elements of the esoteric language. The most synthetic, and one of the most interesting of these methods, is the Tarot ~ P. D. Ouspensky
It also helps to learn the basic symbolism of all the cards, including the Major and Minor Arcana, what each suit represents, and so forth. For this, there are countless beginner’s guides, both online and in print. You may also wish to visit an experienced Tarot reader for some insight and guidance.
In the end, Tarot is a channel of communications which will ultimately depend on you. The answers received can only be uniquely interpreted as they pertain to your life. If someone you knew picked exactly the same cards, for the same spread, they would always draw a different conclusion!
So, head to your favorite esoteric shop, whether online or in person, and pick out a new Tarot deck, if you’ve never used this tool before. It’s the perfect way to start using symbolism to better understand your life… and not just predict your future.
